Why an HTPC and Google TV driver is SOoooo important

We can all sit back and accept what the 'status quo' entrenched media spoon feeds us. You know the typical right wing fox news stuff.

Turn on our cable TV box and accept what they say is fact.....Hey. A foreign guy spills the beans on how the US government thinks about what's going on in the world...no problem... "Let's just go out and capture the guy and execute him"..... that sort of thing.

Or we can elect to live in an enlightened world. Where we can access the Internet, seek out the truth ourselves, visit a site like www.theonethatwasjustcyberblocked.org, and make our own judgement. Where there is freedom of speech. Where we can read for ourselves: not what some politician, or government official says happened, but what actually is the truth.... and make up our OWN mind.

What's interesting is the Murdoch family started out reporting the news just like that. (This is the family behind Newscorp, which is the largest cable TV provider around the world and owner of Fox news). The founder of the media dynasty (Ruperts father) blew the whistle on the appalling decisions made by the British in the Gallipoli campaign in WWII. A blunder that cost tens of thousands of lives.

But somewhere along the way, the established media has lost it's way. It's become corrupt with big corporate money, and political influence and kick backs. So the truth is distorted. And governements and large corporations collectively influence what is published and dictate how media is delivered around the world.

Today the guy at the centre of it all (Julian Assange) released the following article: ironically in the Murdoch press

So how does this relate to Control4?

Well, we can all go on using the established media. Our cable boxes, our Free to Air TV. We can switch on the box and skip through what's spoon fed to us.

Or we use the alternative. We can seek out the relevant truth ourselves. Via the Internet.

Well, the site mentioned above has had to move to Switzerland. Paypal has been forced off as a method of funding transfer...

If that is what you mean by "net neutrality"..then I guess censorship has started already

Anyhow the real point I am making is old media is dead. Wikileaks has officially killed it. So welcome to the brave new world of IPTV and the internet everyone...

Now lets all get serious about integrating HTPC....

Please explain how net neutrality would censure what we can get on the net.

No one really knows how it would effect it. Just reading any article listing the pros and cons, you would get something like this:

"As far as government control of the Internet is concerned, people argue that it would result in increased Internet censorship and invasion of privacy, both of which wouldn't go down well with the users."

I'm out on this topic.
