1.3.2 - looking good + questions

Recommended Posts

Yesterday's announcement from C4 announced at EHX and on the website:

http://www.control4.com/company/press/2007-3-7-132.htm

Looks really nice! All really useful. Nice job, C4! Now here are some questions:

1) How does the IP camera functionality work? Does it sit under the Security menu? Or does it get its own Icon on the main interface? Can it control panning/zooming IP cameras or just shots from still cameras? There was also something in the press release about watching a movie and then flipping to a camera shot at the door. Is there some type of quick flip or PIP, or would you have to leave the movie and flip to the main interface?

2) So if 1.3.2 has Vista compatibility what about 1.3.1? I am getting a new Vista computer next week and was wondering if I should move my network music and HE to the Vista computer and expect it to work. Should I avoid it all together and run the old computer as my C4 server until June?

3) And the photos.... Again, is this a screen saver slideshow only or can you now use the C4 interface to browse photos? Where does this sit in the menu?

Again, nice update. Getting it installed remotely will also be pretty neat.

Anything else up at EHX?

1) Yes it gets it's own Icon... It's only available now on the main interface.

2) We have had little success with Vista and C4.... The newest version of 1.3.1 is vista compatible, I'm not sure if Media Scanning is fixed yet

3) Not sure... Haven't beta tested the photo screen saver yet... next month...

IP Cameras sit under the 'Home' menu, the same as security panels, but in their own window.

If the camera supports pan / tilt and it's one of our supported cameras, you will be able to control it as well as view it.

I don't know if there will be quick flip functionality in the 1.3.2 release or not.

The official list of supported cameras at 1.3.2 release is:

Panasonic BL-C1A (no PTZ)

Panasonic BL-C10A (Pan/Tilt, no Zoom)

Panasonic BB-HCM311 (also Pan/Tilt, no Zoom)

Panasonic BB-HCM381 (both the PoE and Ethernet versions) (Pan / Tilt / 40X zoom)

There may also be some Axis cameras in the final list, but I don't know if the camera server will be supported.

Likely more details when it's closer to shipping.

Ask them nicely to please support the AXIS video servers. AXIS is well known for their stuff.

That way you can use standard (non-IP) cameras that are a lot cheaper and run them through the Axis video IP server.

The 240q, 241q, and 243q for example. Or the old trusty 2400.
