  1. I have literally just swapped out my Panasonic ST50 for the Samsung 65Q80 - the picture IMO is better especially blacks being fully backlit with dimming. I did look at the Sony and it was a tough choice but went with the Samsung because

    • picture for sport (motion) was excellent
    • good reports on the Samsung OS
    • I have a Samsung phone
    • the Samsung TV supports Alexa voice control
    • Control 4 SDDP
    • IP control driver that has been around for a number of years

Your priorities may be different though :)

You have to hook up the NX584 and then go into the alarm panels programming and change settings. It is documented in the drivers documentation tab.

Thanks - so I could get the new panel driver installed and bound by a remote programmer? And if needed I could update panel settings locally myself?

The NX584 requires panel programming but if you know how to do that then you are fine.

I believe I have the old v1 driver and would like to upgrade to the v2 - does this require any changes at the NX8 panel? It’s connected using the NX-584 module?

  4. I'm in NZ and have CBus lighting interfaced with control4.

Also happen to be an electrician, cbus approved installer and control 4 tech ( in my last job). If it's just lighting then cbus will be rock solid and as a product it's been around for 30 years. Imho the moment you want to add AV devices, security systems etc it becomes very limited and expensive.

So far as integration goes it's simple; CBus installer does their programming then passes a list with every light/switch and the group address of each to the control4 integrator who will installer either rs232 communications or IP interface - then installs drivers and binds each one to the group address of each light.

Suggest you look for a control4 dealer who also does cbus and you shouldn't have an issue.

I personally prefer cbus lighting because-

if power fails all lights will return to the last state when power is restored without any intervention

if you move house you can leave the cbus stand alone and take control4 to your new home

  5. I would be interested from the point of view that Amazon isnt and probably never will be available in NZ (we don't have an Amazon or eBay store and only have apple online) I have numerous Apple devices so I'd love to get voice control of c4 using siri - I don't have any homekit devices but have played around previously with the homebridge (i have a Mac mini always on) to send HTTP command s to C4. It worked but would require a huge amount of programming for full voice  control. Now that Siri has an API I'd think that integration should be alot easier but I'm no programmer!

For myself siri works reasonably well and at least it's localised to my geographic region.
