  1. An update.  While @Cyknight advised against zwave locks, I was already committed with owning two of the them (Obsidian) and the C4 zwave module.  I was able to add in an Aeotec Range Extender 6 (the Range Extender 7 did not work for me) to the zwave mesh, greatly improving the reach and making reliable connections to my farthest lock.  Currently working great.  One note on adding the Range Extender 6: it requires a two press button action to add it with the right security protocol.   We'll see how it goes in the long run.

  2. Zwave locks have an extremely limited range due to security concern, have added 'pad on' security features that tend to get 'forgotten' by zwave hubs (C4's own being one of the more stable) and are poor at communicating status.
Every Kwikset C4 lock I've installed comes with the note that it needs to be properly aligned (as should any motor driven lock) and I've not had ONE die on me ever. Batteries in regular setup tend to last 1 year plus (stop using cheap batteries). Yale a little less success though the issues have only really been with the touch faces.
Every SINGLE Zwave lock we've dealt with so far (we don't supply them) has had to be replaced within 2 years, with over half of them within the year.

See why I say stop using Zwave locks?

As for buying C4 locks outside of a dealer...well that's kind of how C4 operates so....
Module for kwikset? Well that's where I'm finding them lacking - Yale sells the modules separately through C4/dealer) and I wish kwikset did too.

In the end, to each there own. Zwave lock are avialable, can be integrated a few ways -  but I test zwave locks that integrate (via Vera or direct) at least once a year, and every time I find them lacking.

Cyknight, as always we appreciate your candor and insight.

    Uhm.

    First and foremost:

    -Stop using zwave locks

    Second and almost as expensice

    -Stop using zwave locks

    Note:

-Zwave locks are garbage, stop using them

    Advice? Get C4 locks

    And stop using zwave locks

And no there are no zwave extenders. All you can do is add more zwave devices in between the last node and the next.

Did I note not to use zwave locks? Just want to be sure of it.

... loud and clear.  Better yet anyway to obtain the zigbee module insert for a Kwikset Obsidian lock?

  4. System:  EA3 with 4K 8-channel Matrix (C4-LU862D) with baluns (C4-LU1E).   I have a TV that is 75 - 100ft from matrix.  Over the past year I have had issues with getting "snow" when turning on a source (no other issues with four other TVs).  The failure does not happen consistently.   It can be "corrected" by power cycling the matrix (takes about 1 minute to resolve) -- powering down the balun has no effect (fully disconnecting POE and HDMI).  Dealer has been troubleshooting for nearly a year -- replacing balun, re-terminating RJ45 connections, trying different zones and HDMI ports, and most recently pulling CAT6 cable from matrix to balun (it had previously been daisy-chained with two separate CAT5e segments.  No joy.  Because it is not consistent it is difficult for dealer to troubleshoot.  The balun is attached to back of TV and the CAT6 cable does run close to the TV power cable which leads me to think it could be a high voltage / EMI interference issue.

Besides the CAT6 running close to the power cable are there other considerations I should be addressing?  Based on limited options for running cables, I was going to try to shield the CAT6 cable further.  Picture of snow attached.  Thanks for any help.

  5. I recently upgraded to an EA3 from an HC250.  Post upgrade I noticed my IFTTT Maker driver is not working.  Per Composer, it states Trial Expired, Invalid Key.   I suspect the original key does not transfer license on upgrading, meaning the original key is unique to the previous HC250 hardware.  Wondering if there is a way to make this transfer or do I need to purchase a new license for the EA3.  I no longer have the HC250 in my possession.

  6. I recently had the dealer upgrade my controller to EA3 from HC250.   Before the upgrade I was able to login to the director via IP and ComposerHE.  SInce the upgrade, I have not been able to login to the EA3.  Using ComposerHE-2.10.6.557874-res while the director version on the EA-3 is on 2.10.6.558226-res.  Any thoughts?

  7. Regarding this issue, the latest from my dealer:  "...Control4 [to my dealer] have explained the video switch is not physically capable of decoding Atmos from an Apple TV. The options are to either continue to use it without Atmos decoding, or we can offer an RMA for credit."

Interesting that it is an AppleTV issue. I have not tried another non-AppleTV source yet.

  8. Cyknight -- do your Output to Audio Mappings look similar?  I have no SPDIF Audio Inputs hooked up currently.  Wondering if this setup is affecting Dolby Atmos from coming across.

Audio Output 1 (Audio Matrix) <--> SPDIF Audio Input 2
Audio Output 2 (Audio Matrix) <--> SPDIF Audio Input 2
Audio Output 3 (Audio Matrix) <--> SPDIF Audio Input 2
Audio Output 4 (Audio Matrix) <--> SPDIF Audio Input 4
Audio Output 5 (Audio Matrix) <--> NOT SELECTED
Audio Output 6 (Audio Matrix) <--> SPDIF Audio Input 6
Audio Output 7 (Audio Matrix) <--> NOT SELECTED
Audio Output 8 (Audio Matrix) <--> Source 5

  9. I have had an C4-LU862D (4K 8x8 Matrix) installed for about year.  I have not been able to get a stereo output at the RCA stereo downmixed from a Dolby Atmos signal.  The spec sheet clearly states:

    • Audio formats: All common surround sound formats including Dolby Atmos, Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital EX, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby Pro Logic II, Dolby Pro Logic IIx, Dolby Pro Logic IIz, Dolby TrueH
    • Analog stereo derived from all audio formats listed above. Programmable audio delay up to approximately 255 ms. Outputs match and follow HDBaseT/HDMI outputs. Models supporting audio downmixing can simultaneously ouput supported surround formats and downmixed stereo audio over HDMI, HDBaseT, and analog audio outputs.

The Dolby Atmos signal is derived from programs/movies/shows on Netflix, Prime, and Apple Movies via the latest generation 4K AppleTV (model A1842) connected to the C4-LU862D.  When routed to an AV receiver it is clear that the Dolby Atmos signal is recognized (by the AVR) but not being downmixed to stereo.  I should mention that the stereo signals from the C4-LU862D are processed through an older C4 16-channel audio matrix (C4-16S2-E-B).

The dealer has been unable to resolve and a tech request has gone into Control4 with no response yet.  Anyone else experiencing this issue and, if so, have you been able to resolve it?  Thanks.
