Does this also mean, if I ever upgrade from my EA-5 to a new Controller, I will have to move to a subscription model?
Yes

Like i said, that is not how it works. I've never come across anyone choosing to configure 50+ cameras individually on systems like these when they are purposely designed to be managed via the NVR.
Thats exactly how it works. There are literally settings on camera UIs not included in the more general NVR config options. It’s also specifically talked about in many brands knowledge base. Otherwise you risk mismatched settings.

That's not how it works within Hikvision. The NVR must have access to the camera to manage them. Is there something precautionary in your mind?
I dont know what you are talking about. There is nothing special about HIK. You should set up IP cameras individually and check to make sure NVR settings match. Batch setting cameras via the NVR is the improper way to do it.

I would 100% take an heavily active community like Unifi or Home assistant for my technical support over paid staffer reading from outdated workflows who half of the time have no idea what im talking about.

HIkvision (and similar) guides are a little clunky when trying to understand how it all comes together but it is essentially a system where the NVR is central to the wider system. Whenever a change is made on the NVR, it sends that config to the camera in question which does the grunt work. It is meant to be centrally administrative. So if you want a line crossing event, you configure it as a Smart Event on the NVR for that camera, add the schedule it should apply and the triggers. Altogether, any event that is detected will then be fed back to the NVR which logs both the video and the time/event VCA data so that you can easily see it on the timeline (be sure to tick either the Human or Vehicle tickboxes under it). Notifications are configured the same way.
Yes, depending on the NVR, most pro installs use POE switches for the cameras and you simply add the IP addresses to the NVR for it to do its thing.
Good luck.
I absolutely do not suggest this. Each camera should be set up individually. NVRs are designed to be reactive to a camera, not as the administrator.

Being opinion doesnt make it untrue. Most NVR software is absolutely trash, completely lack of features or intuitive UI included in consumer crap like Alarm.com
DigitalWatchdog is finally an option from Snap thats worth while. Unifis camera app is easily the best, but I need to use too diverse of a camera type to really use them in most jobs.

I installed 87 Clare cams last year. Mostly because of the doorbell option and “waterfall” Ring type live camera layout.
My major complaint of the turret is theres only one single mm set screw that attaches the camera sphere and shell to the mounted base. Just one. -

So you think unifi is as good as ruckus?
Yes.

Name one university or corporate environment that choose unifi over ruckus or Cisco

And if you are comparing unifi to ruckus that's like comparing Toyota to an Aston martin...
No. We can stop there…

Don't consider them touchscreens at all. They're super fancy 'touch' keypads.
'Touchscreens' in C4 world are full scale visual/user interfaces that give you your whole home to control in every aspect, a keypad is a programmed control point set to do specific tasks.
You can consider them whatever you want but they are definitely touch screens.
Maybe just for fun answer the question asked which was how they compare?

he knows about drivers and how to use them but he doesn't know how to create them.
If that were true, you wouldnt be on a end user forum being overwhelmed by some pretty standard industry information. Please dont take it personally.

In today's gaming landscape, the approach to playing games throughout your house has indeed evolved significantly from the Xbox 360 days. The shift towards cloud gaming and streaming services, such as NVIDIA's GeForce NOW, reflects the industry's move towards more flexible and accessible gaming experiences. GeForce NOW is particularly noteworthy for its ability to stream games you already own from various digital PC game stores directly to your devices.

Honestly i'm a 12 year old trying to make a quick buck for someone at my dad's work who wants to see if im up for the challenge. My dad has composer which will make it easier... please help me, also my dad knows everything about composer and c4 except drivers and making drivers so if that helps maybe just maybe
If your dad has composer pro and doesnt know about drivers or making them, not only does he not know everything about C4, he probably knows very little. This isnt a project for you. Sorry.

I personally despise the 'modern' C4 look but to each there own. I much prefer the 'traditional' version (especially in midnight black with an actual stainless steel cover).
That said, tastes will differ. I do like these: https://www.axxind.com/smarthome/touch-keypads/
Rithum is another options that I've looked at but never used them. I'm concerned about speed of control a bit on those and just had zero time to trial them.
In the end, we've done VERY few alternative options - because the added cost of alternative keypads with less snappy control, or much more expensive keypads that work just as well tends to convince even the most 'liquid' clients.
We've played with some KNX options and things like the blacknova aria but it's rarely gone anywhere, and frankly they rarely work quite as well as a regular keypad.
Most cases it's a few alternate options in specific locations such as decked out theatres but the majority still regular keypads.
The problem with the overly fancy options is also that they POP a lot more. Which is nice in a demo setup and looks great on a web page showing one of them....but it tends to become this obvious thing sticking out on every wall of your house if you put them everywhere and actually can feel like MORE wall clutter, not less. Just something to consider.
Also, while the 'touch' look is again nice, think of how you live and move around in the house. A 'tactile' keypad over the course of a bit of time become muscle memory - you walk across the house and merely 'feel' what button to press, do so blindly and move along and you get what you want. Generally for any touch options - you will ALWAYS stop and look at what you're doing.
Not telling you NOT to do alternate and fancy options - but don't get drawn too much into the look of something, that may be better of not being noticeable at all.
Those are touchscreen alternatives, as in an alternative for using a touchscreen, not so much keypads, and I find them rather 'meh'
100%… I use Noon Lighting OLED keypads for elevated control in my Savant systems. Especially since clients can add or remove their own touch buttons and system scenes. They are VERY cool and a HUGE PITA to use all at the same time. Tactile controls make a huge difference in our primitive daily routine.

Not necessarily unless you're a Control4 dealer.
Same as in current Snap One distribution locations, I would assume.
That said, I don't speak for any of the companies involved here, and can't predict the future, but I think you may be making an unfounded assumption...

Definitely making assumptions… that doesnt negate the obvious when it comes to big business’s marketing these types of moves. Profits and sales are the goal here, not product. Id love to know what liquidly of $800m after closing will bring…

This is technically the double…

gotcha. i guess i was just saying its not like C4 will get shutdown or anything.
No no. All signs point to larger (but IMO quality diluted) access and integrations. Savant is trying to become more exclusive, higher end. It’s amazing how different their paths have been in the last 5 years and how poor each brand has been at it.

You can take the “dead’ balun and swap it with a working one in a different zone to verify it’s not a dead HDBT port.
If the problem follows the balun it needs replaced otherwise it’s a bad matrix zone.
HDBT is an industry standard

Control4 has sound machine natively... Any reason to use Autonomic?
Ha..ooof… no sorry not from a feature standpoint that I am aware of. I did forget that. I am always thinking about solutions that can be interchanged between control systems. I have used a few Mood players as static sources as well.

Autonomic w/ SoundMachine, XM Business
Theres also Sonos Pro

Most POE switches are OVRC compatible. Thats not the same as control4 given technical support to 3rd party advanced configs they would never be able to keep up with. They dont want to walk you through Cisco configs either.
Paid Unifi technical support is a result of their growth, profits and heavy site implementation.
