rydbeckc
The transformer for the HDMI extender will not fit in the recessed electrical outlet behind my low profile wall mount. I am trying to brainstorm how I can power this thing and it occurred to me that my TV has a USB port that is 5V (same voltage as HDMI Extender power supply). Can I purchase or fabricate a USB to 3.5mm male and power the extender thru the USB outlet on the TV?
rydbeckc
Something like this one: http://www.meritline.com/usb-to-dc-3-5-mm-5v-power-cable---p-37035.aspx
avittech
Does it draw less than 500ma of current?
Shaawn
I just finished an install where we had 9 HDBaseT baluns all powered from the each display's USB port. Works flawlessly so far!
Cyknight
It'll work in general, only thing I've encountered is that some baluns don' like being powered up AFTER the TV is turned on making them fail to connect. But DO check they power output rating on that TV's USB port to make sure you're not overdrawing or not getting enough power to the balun. rydbeckc
Thanks Shaawn and Cyknight! The included power supply is 2000mA Rich. I will check the specs on the TV
lexirosy
I am not sure if it will work. I would recommend getting a HDBaseT Extender solution. I have used a few from KVMSwitchTech and they work great.
