CYTEXONE to provide a C4 driver for Just Add Power's HDMI over IP

I'm looking to implement a video distribution system into an existing house, and would use traditional ethernet in most rooms. However, there is one room that would be difficult to run the cabling to. Would the JAP HDMI to Ethernet work well with a POE device? I would assume so since the JAP solution only uses 100 Mbps ports, but wanted to verify before purchasing.

Thanks for the great posts, this is truly helpful.

Did you mean "Ethernet over Powerline" perhaps?

If so, we have not yet found one of those devcies that works 100% with HDMI over IP. I think it is just a matter of time before we find the right Ethernet over Powerline solution that will provide the consistant bandwidth needed to support the HDMI over IP multicast.

If you really did mean PoE (Power over Ethernet) - keep your eyes peeled at CES in Vegas next month and you might spot a working Just Add Power sample at the show....

Can Cytexone or any dealers out there comment on what drivers are available beyond the Cisco 2960 series driver?

I'm looking for a driver to run this Linksys SRW2024P, which can do everything the 2960 Cisco Catalyst switches can do, plus has gigabit ethernet ports, and can be had from Newegg.com right now for just $680, significantly cheaper than the 2960.

Can anyone give me some info? How hard would it be to alter an existing driver for this switch?

We are working with some Cisco representatives to find a way to properly support the SRW series from LinkSys with the current RS232 based drivers. While the SRW's do have an RS232 port, their native RS232 command set is not robust enough to support the switching of VLAN's. This means you have to manage the "channels" using the GUI in the switch, which is not family friendly. Either we need a firmware update for the LinkSys to allow the equivalent of the SWITCHPORT command on the 2960's, OR we need the SNMP driver from CytexOne to come to market.

You could pickup a Dell 3524 from Blackwire Designs, with the properly configured Control4 driver, for less. You could also hit him up for the Dell 5424 if you need a Gigabit model. I'm not opposed to you holding out for support of the SRW, I just can't predict how long this will take.

Any idea when this will come? It has been discussed for an awful long time....is this still in the works?

The last I heard from Dan at CytexOne is that the SNMP driver is still "in the works". It is just not yet a front burner priority. Perhaps we'll know more after CES.

We are working with other platform developers (i.e. NOT C4) to deliver SNMP drivers also, but that doesn't really concern anybody on this board.

One problem with both of these switches is they lack POE support, so when the POE recievers come out, you can't take advantage of it. That's not the end of the world though. The dell switches don't appear to have an RS-232 jack, so it is just IP controlled?

Also, can someone give me an explanation of what an "SNMP driver" is? What is the difference here?

That would be an IP based driver sending commands over the LAN that not require RS232 communications. Ideally, the driver would work across most Managed Ethernet switches, without having to be adjusted to the specific manufacturers console command set.
