PhilS83
I have a dimming light switch connected to 2 loads. It’s been working fine for 2+ years. On Friday, I had a smart meter installed. An hour or so later there was a pop from the direction of the light switch and all the lights went out. I reset the RCD and it didn’t trip again. The light switch lit up but now only 1 load is being controlled. Composer HE shows the light switch and both loads as being connected/active. I can set the light on/off and dim up/down but the light itself doesn’t come on. I’ve checked with bulbs from the working load but still nothing. I’ve tried resetting the light switch (15x top button) but nothing. Is anyone able to advise on what to do next? Is there a way to repair the switch? Or do I need a new one? gogogadget
Are you getting 120v at the bulb socket? Are you getting 120 V leaving the switch on that line? That would help narrow down where the issue is.
PhilS83
I am based in the UK. Would I still expect 120V? Or rather 240V?
Cyknight
You'd see 240. And if you do see 240, it means the switch is working - if you don't (and that seems likely) you'll have a blown switch - there's no repair for that and you're looking at a replacement. That said, I would have an electrician check WHY it might have blown (so it doesn't do it again)
PhilS83
Thankyou. Will get it checked. It does seem odd that only 1 'half' of the switch has blown. Since the other load still works.
Cyknight
It would be the internal relay on the one load control side that got busted - in and of itself it's not all that 'strange' that could happen while the other one remains working. PhilS83
Thankyou. Do you know if the relay can be replaced on its own? Or it needs a new switch?
