Which Driver to use with Lutron Caseta Smartbridge Pro

Greetings, I recently purchased a house that came with Control4. My previous home automation experience is with Smartthings, Hubitat & Lutron Caseta. I already have a Lutron Caseta Smartbridge Pro that I have integrated with Hubitat, so I am familiar with the process of getting the integration report from the Lutron app, enter that info into Hubitat, etc.

I have also purchased Composer HE and done a couple of tweaks on my system.

I have about 25 Lutron devices (in-wall dimmers, picos, lamp dimmers and fan controllers) and 1 Lutron Smartbridge Pro. The label on the bottom of the SmartBridge has both of the following printed on it: "L-BDGPRO2" and "model BDG-1".

I have read many posts in the forum about the various Lutron drivers that can be installed into Control4 -- some of them going back several years -- but I am left with some questions:

  • It sounds like the Lutron Caseta SmartBridge Pro driver is pretty old and still is limited to 50 devices. It also sounds like I will need the dealer to add the SmartBridge *and* the other ~25 Lutron devices individually, which seems pretty time consuming. Is this correct?
  • It sounds like there is an RA2 Select Driver that is not limited to 50 devices. What isn't clear to me is if this driver will work with my SmartBridge PRO, and if so, exactly which RA2 Select driver to use. Also, it sounds like this driver will automatically add the ~25 Caseta devices to the control4 configuration, but I'm not certain this is correct.

Any help would be great appreciated, thank you.

You should be using the new LEAP driver for Caseta Smart Bridge Pro.  No integration report needed, just pair the main driver with the bridge (takes 3 seconds), then press buttons on the Actions tab to add/sync rooms, lights, keypads, etc.

Thank you very much for the quick response -- very much appreciated!

I only have access to Composer Home Edition ("HE"). It sounds like I will need to ask the distributor to do this -- is this correct? Will devices added to the Smart Bridge be automatically added to Control4, or will I need to ask them to take a specific action whenever a new Caseta device is added?

Thanks again!

you can use the lutron leap driver for caseta hub or the pro hub, once its all setup on the lutron side your dealer can just do get devices under actions  and it will add all your devices automatically but if your c4 project is already built it will add the rooms again and add all the lights into one room so he will have to delete the duplicate rooms and move all the lights to the proper rooms.

@tekki70, thank you for taking the time to explain this behavior -- very helpful!

Background: I will be working with the C4 that was setup before I purchased the home. I already does many useful things.

A couple of questions:

  • I have some rooms with both C4 dimmers and Caseta dimmers. Currently, the room names in the Lutron Caseta app are not the same as in C4. Would I be better off changing the names in the Caseta app to match the names in the C4 app before asking my dealer to run an import, or doesn't it matter?
  • If I have my dealer run a second import from the bridge because I've added more dimmers & picos, will the dimmers & picos that were imported on the first pass also get duplicated and need to be deleted, or does it only import the newly added dimmers and picos?

Thanks again for your help. I'm trying to learn enough ahead of actually making the changes to have this go as smooth as possible.
