Pakedge + Ubiquiti -> Alexa don't answer questions

Recommended Posts

Hello,

We're currently using C4 home automation, and our installer recommended upgrading our network with a Pakedge RK-1 router and a Pakedge SX-24P managed switch.
We've also set up our Wi-Fi network using a Ubiquiti U6-Pro and a Ubiquiti UAP-AC-LR (POE) and configured it through the UniFi Windows controller.
Our network and Wi-Fi are functioning correctly.

We've implemented VLANs (Pakedge Zones) to separate our video surveillance and media equipment between zones.

Our issue is as follows:

A few months ago, we purchased three Amazon Echo devices with clock (5th gen). After connecting these Echo devices to our Wi-Fi, we noticed that they can hear our questions, the light turns blue when invoking Alexa, and our questions appear in the history. However, the Echo devices never provide any responses.

We've double-checked the volume and ensured that the settings are correct. We also reached out to Amazon, who replaced all three Echo devices with new ones.

However, we still face the same problem. We can add the Echo devices to the Wi-Fi network, but they still don't respond.

We conducted a test by moving the Echo devices to other locations with different networks (not using Pakedge or Ubiquiti), and they worked perfectly.
When we returned them to our network, the Echo devices still didn't work.

Do you have any suggestions on where we should investigate this issue?
Could it be a problem with Pakedge or Ubiquiti?
Could the VLANs (Zones) be causing the problem?
We're at a loss and would greatly appreciate any help or suggestions you can provide.

Thank you in advance.

I’ve experienced the same. Tried putting all the echos on a IoT vlan and they never worked right. Sometimes music would play, sometimes not. Sometimes notifications worked, sometimes not. Same with responses.

I spent way too much time trying to diagnose and getting all the traffic passed to/from the vlan. Eventually gave up and moved them to the primary vlan.

Network architecture - pfsense router, ubiquiti APs, pakedge switches.

Would love to hear if anyone actually gets this to work and how.
