If you're *swapping out* the 300, you'd need serial ports of the 800 to control the Mode lighting.

If you're *adding* a controller, you could get by on the 1000, but again, I think the 800 is a better controller, especially if you use on-screen.

thanks again for all the help

I think it would be "adding" the controller as you say and using the 300 for IR connections and mode lighting

I still can't find any distributer that will sell the hc800 as you say (cash and carry) from the USA - so the hc 1000 may be more managable re finances . Is the navigator so much quicker with the hc800 than with the hc1000/300 combo ?

There are basically 2 parts to the speed of a Navigator:

1) Speed of the Director responding to Navigator, and in passing on async messages to the Navigator

2) Speed of the CPU the Navigator is running on.

#1 will be improved either way, with the 1000 or the 800.

#2 will only be improved by the 800.

The on-screen is a *lot* faster on the 800 than the 300.

You can buy it on eBay, but you still need a licensed installer to program it. Each copy of Composer Pro (the software needed to program or identify anything) is licensed to installers of certified companies that sell/install C4. Even with the software you can't use it without a login.
