mtyre Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 I have been ripping movies to my NAS drive for 3 months now with only sporatic problems. However, I'm coming across a lot of movies that after they're ripped, they are showing up with m4v extensions versus mp4 extensions. Although it's ripped to my computer, when I scan using the Control 4 Composer, it doesn't show up. I'm ripping them using SnowFox and have preselected the m4v-mpeg4 video selection. Any reason why the scan doesn't show the movie in my file?
ILoveC4 Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 Did you tell it to scan for that file type?
mtyre Posted February 13, 2011 Author Posted February 13, 2011 I just checked and it wasn't on my list of files to scan. I added m4v and think it worked! Thanks for the suggestion!
mtyre Posted February 13, 2011 Author Posted February 13, 2011 OK, got the video to take but not the audio.....any suggestions there?
getafix Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 Start ripping them as ISO files...I agree. You will maintain all audio tracks and menus (if you want) without any loss. Basically a 1:1 copy of the original and pretty much all players can read that format.
brandon.willmott Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 what software do you recommend for ripping... is MKV better than M4V? If i have a Mac does it change anything on ripping my DVDs?
mwilson Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 Is there a program for the MAC platform that allows ripping to ISO? I know AnyDVD works well for PC, but what about mac? Thanks.
Billiam Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 I use RipIt by The Little App Factor. Extremely simply. One window. No options other than compressing the resulting file. Which you don't want to take the time to do unless you also want to save that compressed file somewhere else using much less space.http://thelittleappfactory.com/ripit/
