Hc-300

So for anyone testing this unit - how much faster is it? I still have some delay when cover art is pulled up or XM stations are loaded to select from the menu. Is this the home theater controllers or the media controller? Just curious on reasons for me to upgrade the HD is not reason enough at this time. Given I have 4 home theater controllers and 1 media controller.

Also, why would they not announce a new media controller? I would assume they are looking at the same upgrade (processor, HD, maybe larger hard drive, etc.) for the media controller? It would make more sense to upgrade the entie line of controllers at one time?

The official announcement was yesterday - yes it's much faster - yes it has more memory (so it cache's a lot more than it used to). Yes in every way - it's nicer! :)

As far as new Media Controller - nothing on deck right now for that, that I'm aware of - it's not even in beta testing that I'm aware of. I know I've heard rumors of one - but if I had to guess - we're still 6 months off.

Not understanding how the media controller and home theater controllers work/communicate - given the mp3s are stored on the media controller as well as the Sony 777s hooked into the media controller - what is the advantage of upgrading a larger system withoug a media controller upgrade? Do the home theater controllers have enough storage to keep the database, covert art, etc. within there memory?

Go ahead and kill me if this is a stupid question!

i have the same question as panamagixxer. i am being told to go for the new HTC, but I am concerned about where cover art info will be stored (maybe network drive?)

my second concern is the number of serial ports. i will need at least 5.

plenty of room on HTC new and old for cover art, movie info, music cover art and info etc

there are USB ports to hook USB drive(s) to for for all your music. MP3 is the only CODEC that is supported.

Old HTC only has 1 serial port, new one has 2.

so then, other than being able to rip cd's, is there any other functionality of the media controller over and above what the htc has? Or, better yet, will I lose any functions if I don't get a media controller and instead use htc's? I plan on having my mp3's on a seperate usb hard drive.

thanks,

tum

Media Controller basically just has more of everything. You won't loose functionality per se just the ability to control more, if that makes any sense. What you will gain is speed with the HC300 over the MC due to a more powerful processor. Here are some differences.

MC has toslink digital inputs/outputs

MC has 4 Composite Video Sense Inputs & 4 Outputs

MC has 2 more serial ports

MC has 5 more contacts and relays

MC has 4 IR inputs

MC has 2 more IR outputs for a total of 8

MC has 80GB harddrive

so if I'm just using htc's with my mp3's on a seperate usb hard drive, will I still be able to see all of the album cover art, songs, etc on a mts or the tv?

tum

Yes as long as it is hooked to the HTC.

DEPENDS... on how large your MP3 library is...

IT IS possible (very possible) to fill up the HTC's storage with too much clipart for media. I DO NOT know what the limitation is, but I "DO" know that I've been told for larger libraries (600 or more????) to use a MEDIA CONTROLLER - as you'll run out of space on the HTC.

so the question is what is the limitation on the new htc? I was hoping to have a usb hard drive attached to the htc with about 300GB of music. I'm not sure how that translates into files, but I'm guessing its a lot:P

and thanks for all the replies!

If I were to use an HTC-300 and a MC together in a setup (to get more control ports) could I still get the advantage of the high-def GUI from the HC-300? Or would the MC automatically have to be the master device? I'd probably prefer to keep my music on a USB drive rather than the MC drive if that makes any difference?

Basically, if my setup is going to require a MC for the number of controlled devices it offers, do I still get any advantage by waiting for the HC-300? Or am I just as well off with the HTC?

Thanks!
