This is certainly something we can look into. It would be released as a different, universal driver though.

    Hi,
My understanding was that u already use Modbus to pull the data - it seems u do not.

The GUI is looking really good. For the driver to work as a general UI at it need is a driver option to read other variabels for:
    production (current)
    total day
    export
    usage house
    SoC
    charge rate

then anyone could connect basically any solar system to your UI via a C4 modbus driver (there should be one, I havent tried it though)

Security. If I remember correctly C4s stack is more secure. Using 3rd party could put c4 at more risk.

Security and number of ZG devices per mesh.

However C4 could also run a second mesh with zigbee 3.0 and LL to support all the available options, i.e. direct HUE connection - and yet they dont..

No.  They can't join each other's meshes.

The Hue lighting uses Zigbee LL (Light Link, inside of 3.0), while Control4 uses Zigbee HA.

The Hue also doesn't support the 'large installation' commands that Control4 implements and requires.

There is an abundance of ZigBee hardware which could be put to use with Control4. I do understand the stack changes, however what prevents Control4 from creating a separate Mesh with Zigbee 3, i.e via a an external USB stick to have the best of both worlds? It would drastically increase the usefulness of Control4, especially compared to the catching up from smartthings and so on - also Matter integration would be really nice...

  4. Since Control4's own switches and keypads are a no go due to the limited face plate designs and the lacking compatibility to just add a 3rd party face plate from a 55 or 50mm standard in Europe I have tried hue. And I can say:

    Forget it!

Hue is good for one or two, maybe a handful of light if you need the functionality. For anything else get something else....

  5. My 2cents:
2.5G isn't so widely adopted, especially if you are looking for larger port count and this also applies for PC/clients NICs.

Yes some ppl have WAN connection of 1GB+ or Wifi6 - however I have yet to see a wifi connection IRL that gets 100MB/s saturating a 1GB copper links behind the AP.

Thing is that for 99,5% of applications 1GB is still plenty enough - so I would get a switch with enough 1Gb ports as you need and for the "faster ports" (PC and NAS) just go for 10GB ports in the necessary number - as long as your wiring can do 10GB you have plenty of time to get a new switch in 5 or 10 years when demand really is there.

  6. Hello everyone

Yesterday I noticed that my 2 Chime doorbells stopped working. When I checked the status via HE it said "device busy" - well I waited another day and still the same so I removed power on one of them - still the same, no luck.
Then I entered the IP in my web browser it only shows "503 - Upgrading firmware now. Please try again later after firmware upgrade is done. "

Any idea how to revive that thing? - first my T3 touchpads are stuck in a bootloop fater "some update" and now the Chimes, that kinda "not so nice"

am interested in how you would use this in Control4.  Is it just scheduling, like turning on a dishwasher, clothes washer, etc at certain times?  Turning on an oven?  Are there events that you would want to program against?  When a washer or dryer finishes a cycle you could fire an announcement.  I guess for wine coolers a temperature alarm might make sense.

    Hi

My main idea was to use it as notifications - washing machine, dryer is finished on the wall tablets - so anyone walking around know that tis done and one can proceed to the next step.
This is what goes wrong most of the times, someone turn on the washing machine, goes to do other stuff and forgets about it..... . Even when I use an App I only see it on the phone screen and its just the persons who have the app

Also starting the dryer via a schedule would be something I would look into.

  8. Nice, this is the 3rd or 4th lighting "generation" for NA - yeah great tech, looks good and I'm sure works really well.

Meanwhile in Europe Control4 is present for about 8 years and hasn't even managed to provide a single generation of its light switches that actually fit customers expectations and blends into the designs over here - with such a great product, technology wise, this really is an epic fail.
I have talked to numerous Control4 dealers and 2 Control4 employees over the last 3 years and all of them admit that their own lighting products "just don't sell" - the reason is simple and very easily solvable:
Control4 face plates, which are necessary as you can't use other key-caps, do not fit to any design sold over here (plugs etc). Also the faceplates are only available in 1 or 2 gang option even though as much as 5 gang is common.

All it needs are keycaps and a trim ring compatible to the standard face-plates measurements (55 or 50mm) and all of a sudden control4 lighting products are compatible to numerous design lines of face-plates

The solution is so simple that I guess I have to buy a different HA system when I renovate my place in the next year or two....

PS: and no, the puck switch is not an option as it just doesn't fit into any regular sized box, just too big with cables and all

Also love tp link bc they have flush mount outlets that look very similar to a regular outlet, nothing to plug in.

Which ones are flush mount? All models I can find are to be plugged into an existing socket.

The only switchable in will solution I have seen is using KNX and I believe there is also an EnOcean based model

  10. Hi

    I have 2 quesrions:

Can I force the VDB to use 5ghz WiFi? - I have 2 units and one switches ith 5ghz, the other one stays at 2.4ghz even though 5ghz reception is good in that location.

I just wanted to check the video on my TV which is hooked up my EA3 and noticed that it won't display the VDB video as it's 1600x1200 - the controller is 720p only.

So far so logical but why the heck does the VDB not allow 720p??? - the next resolution below 1600x1200 is 1024x768 which I find is kinda ridiculous considering the VDB is a C4 product but still they aren't able to offer a uniform, 720p resolution to be distributed between their own product range!
