The really maddening part is that I did on the last two of 4. When I reached out to the most recent seller (even also bought the included Wemo switch, which I didn't need, just to finally get the generation one dot), his answer was "but they look the same." SMH. I'm not trying a fifth time. I'll just continue without voice control. I'm accustomed to it by now, and I can't fairly say that I didn't get my money's worth from the Epic driver during the few years it worked.

So I'm 4 for 4 now when it comes to buying what was listed on eBay as a Generation One Echo Dot, only to have it arrive and find that it is a generation two. With the most recent purchase and return, I even emailed the seller photos of the two devices explaining the difference and asked him to verify. The Gen two arrived yesterday. I give up.

Very kind of you, but that won't be necessary. Next time before I spend so much energy b1tching, I'll hop out to eBay and make sure that there's not a $20.00 fix, myself. Had no idea they were so inexpensive, and I've just ordered one. Thanks for edumacating me. Have easily gotten my money's worth from the driver, and $20.00 was a pittance to exchange for the luxury of having my voice control back. Thanks!

So now going on 4+ months. Hard to reconcile what's written below with the suggestion that I revert to a Generation 1 Echo Dot as a solution. To be clear, I paid just south of $200.00 for a driver that doesn't work with my chosen (2.10.6) C4 version. Is it safe to assume that there will never be a fix for this that doesn't involve jumping to OS 3.x or buying an old Echo device? Thanks.

Just have to ask.... Do you make any distinction between a "DIY-wannabe" versus DIY's?

Primary differences I note are: v2 doesn't have integrated WiFi - have to use USB dongle Audio circuitry improvements in v2 intended to address "popping" issues experienced by small percentage of v1 users v2 replaces older flash storage with SSD Minimum supported OS on v2 is 2.10.2 versus 2.8.1 on v1. ID button on v2 also has an LED Same CPU, RAM, etc.

Unless my eyes deceive me and I'm grossly misinformed, there is. The differences between the two, quite honestly, are immaterial to me based on being only a prothusiast with a moderately sized home and project. I've attached C4's data sheet detailing the comparison between the two.
