We had a Lutron system in a former home and hated it, because when something goes wrong, we lose lighting to the entire house and have to wait for the dealer to show up to reset it. Then the controller went bad & it would cost $5-$10k to replace it with a new unit, and need a dealer to install, service and repair. Lutron’s whole house lighting system is designed to keep the dealers in business and charge homeowners ridiculous fees to service the units.

We’re presently considering purchasing a resale home with a Lutron system in place and will adjust the purchase price down to reflect the cost of re-wiring the entire house back to a traditional light switch system. The house is a 3,800 sf single story, 5 bedroom, office, living, dining, family room, kitchen & breakfast nook. The question is what will be the cost of replacing the Lutron system with traditional switches, including fishing new lines, wall patching, painting, etc.  $10k $20k?

Only an electrician that can see how that house is wired and the painter / decorator / handy person who is doing the patch and paint will be able to give you those numbers.  Don't know the reliability of Lutron systems but most C4 switches go into a dumb mode and control the load when the controller is off line.

Good luck.  If I was your seller, I would tell you this house was not for you!

We have several drivers that control split systems.

    Hi Alan,

I'll ask here as others may benefit from the answer.

So I have two heat solutions in my home and while I was using IFTT for the switch over that is now paid so I am looking for a C4 integrated soluition.

Backup heat (and hot water) is Oil controlled by ecobees (2 one per floor) and that is nicely integrated to C4

Primary Heat/Cool is a Mitsubishi Minisplit system with Kumo Cloud (no integration to C4 at present)

This is a second home that is also rented to weekly tenants during parts of the summer so needs to be simple / room control level control for the cool during that time.

So what would be the best / the option of the ones you propose above as part of making all that work inside C4 and probably keeping the IR remotes so the rental residents have a stick to point at the device just like they are used to and not needing me to install lots of touch screens or something to replace them (have guests break etc).

    Thanks,

Anyone have integration tips for an IR-compatible fireplace control with 25-step single dial for on/off and flame height?

A 5min experiment with a bond bridge led me to believe that I had to send 20+ IR "on" commands to turn the dial all the way up, and the inverse for turning it off. I'm concerned about IR issues (with needing 20+ commands to turn it off) and the fireplace not turning off correctly.

    Thoughts? Best practices?

How many buttons are there on the IR remote. Two?

    Haven't heard of it.

    We do have Sensibo

    https://sensibo.com/

    https://chowmain.software/drivers/control4-sensibo

    it does a similar thing.

Similar, but does not change the local control.

I need local control because I rent the house for individual weeks during the summer and don't want a complex you control the cool in your room on this or that.

The nest style twist for hotter or colder is intuitive to many and provides instant feedback on the screen.

Any other thoughts of if my understanding of sensibo is off, I appreciate them. I know you have done lots integrating this non American tech.

    Thanks.

Anyone integrated these. I'm always looking for an effective way of getting my Mitsubishi system into Control4

As an Internet of Things (IoT) device, the intelligence of the Flair System resides in the cloud.

We do have a free, open API. The site at https://flair.co/api has information on authentication and examples of how to do many common actions - read temperatures, open/close vents, adjust set points, control a mini split, etc.

There is an example python client available at https://github.com/flair-systems/flair-api-client-py and a few additional examples available at https://github.com/flair-systems/flair_api_client_python_examples.

I have some local videos on Dune / Nas.  Is there a way to trigger playing a specific video via programming in c4 ?  How would you do this with the dune driver?

Historically the MyMovies driver. Not sure where that is any more.

Now, can you add a plex server on it then a plex client on the screen you want to watch on.

    Hi everyone,

i currently have a luxul xap-1410 as my ap, with a pakedge re-2 router. Was good for a while, but now I’m not getting a quarter of the speed that I’m paying for and doesn’t reach my third floor. Seems like old tech in a new age. I’ve reached out to my dealer and well selling little stuff doesn’t seem to be his priority. I’ve read that mesh systems are no good for control 4, so I don’t know what to do. Am I able to change or update on my own without a dealer? What is good to change to that supports wifi 6, good speed and long range. Unifi? Any help would be appreciated…

    Thanks

So the WAP itself while older is not really the problem. It's not 2023 tech but it has the right AC and N radios etc.

First. Who lives in this house and what are their WiFi use cases.

With the extra wire to thr 3rd floor I think adding another same WAP up there could help solve moat things with minimal cost and engineering. Get one on eBay and find out how to get it to join or program it into your network.

Replacing WiFi by yourself needs some knowledge of how your current network is configured. What lans exist on what ip4 ranges. What is dhcp reserved etc. Without that you could easily mess up your control 4 but the dealer should have thst info for you or the new installer If they don't want to do the job.
