Gosh darn it... I can't help but say one last thing.

To wit:  Amazon.  I bought a camera and a show for a monitoring camera in the house.  It is absolutely critical it work 100% of the time (I keep two separate systems for redundancy - amazon was one).  Worked great for a couple years, then amazon just killed it.  C4 has a lot of competition with all the off the shelf home automation stuff now.  But one of their critical advantages is the confidence that this isn't just a throw-away consumer device that may or may not work in a year.  They will stand behind their legacy products - that is a major competitive advantage.  And one of their 'products' is the integration itself.

I guess I'm glad you guys aren't running C4.  They seem to get it - good product, well supported.  I feel confident in putting it in a build for the long-term. 

After 12 years, support for Windows XP will end on April 8, 2014.

I concur with your assessment. Probably android update broke C4. 
 

I disagree with your “surprise” that they still support OS2. You can’t build something into a house that just stops working. If you want people to make that investment you MUST support it as long as possible. Like, measured in decades. That’s like selling cars that only go 40k miles. A few bucks of support make people willing to pay big bucks because they know it will last. 
 

I have a color wheel in os2! (But still… I’ll work on getting it updated.)

But it still drives me nuts.  I spent a couple hours today un-screwing random things that don't work anymore.  Comes with the territory of overly complicated integration of random stuff.  Echo stopped working (it was an old bespoke driver before C4 had a driver), IFTTT routine stops working (weather no longer provided, teams no longer pushing scores...), one of the outlet dimmer hw fails, kindle pushed an update, now C4 pushed an update, and....  

The more you do with the system, the more often it breaks.  I'm sure in the next year or so AI will fix everything automatically!

(Though I just reread your post... I mean, C4 definitely had a bug, and definitely fixed it.  I had reloaded everything multiple times.  Couple weeks go by and it magically fixed itself.  Pretty much the only thing that could have happened was C4 or kindle pushing an update.)

Well what-do-yah-know!!!  Someone fixed something!

Both kindles back up and running as of now.  I had pretty much given up.

(I also just noticed the new sticky that says how to get noticed by the mobile team... WILCO in the future!)

Dan - same problem.  Clearly someone broke something.  That drives me nuts with C4.  Things work for a year or two, but never forever.

The kindles are fine - certainly not overloaded or anything (one of them is pretty new).   Either the new OS version broke C4, or the C4 app update broke itself.  

Thanks for the recommendations.  I removed the app, restarted, and re-loaded, that didn't do the trick.  

Two different Fires, the newer model is Fire 7, OS 7.3.2.7.  C4 App OS2.

I don't think it is the Fire, since this is two different models that are both doing the same thing.  I'm stumped.  

The weirdest part is the app crashes back to the kindle home screen when it tries to load the C4 circular menu.  But when I press the 'show apps' button on the kindle I can see the blank C4  app (i.e. missing the menu items).  So the app is still running, but want stay in the foreground or load the menu items.

Anyone else lose their kindle capability? I have two kindles I use as wall mounted touchpads. They both stopped working a couple months(?) ago. Over the years, one or the other has had trouble for a couple weeks, but never both failing permanently. 

The C4 app launches then immediately crashes. Same on both units. 

Excellent - thanks.  I had not logged into that for years...   That is nice that you can turn off discovery of the 'garbage' devices.

I did find the scenes, in a different section of the app.  Still isn't working, but they are there.

I have used an alexa driver for the last 7 years to happily turn scenes on and off (among a few other things).  For some inexplicable reason, that just stopped working.  Thinking I would 'upgrade' to the skill, I went ahead and loaded up the C4 skill, linked my account and discovered devices.  I now have 150+ devices - a dog's breakfast of things mis-labeled (blinds are lights, SONOS are blinds...??), unhelpful (one is a MAC address), etc.  None of which are my advanced lighting scenes.  I can go through and delete everything but the actual lights (most of which seem to be there), but that still doesn't get me scenes.

Does the Alexa Skill not let you control Advanced Lighting scenes??

Yah.  Ok.  That sounds like the answer is no.

I suppose I stick with what works. ... My dealer wants to upgrade my stuff, but I'm not going to do it if it is a step backwards.  I sort of feel bad - not his fault.

Sure... the company can do what it wants.

But... The consumer market has come a long way.  I know two people who have moved and didn't put it into their new place.  I wouldn't bother with it if I moved.  I can get all the functionality with consumer stuff, with the reliability, without the head-banging when I need the smallest thing tweaked.  That option didn't exist when I originally installed it years ago.

I certainly wouldn't buy stock in C4 now.  But I love my system while it lasts.

Has the speed issue been resolved?  I've been putting off 3 until I hear things are fixed.

Doesn’t handle scores and such, but at least the game start.  Super easy!

I'm guessing there is no good answer, but one of my favorite C4 tricks was to change my keypad colors based on what game was on that night (Red was a subtle reminder to turn on hockey, Orange is my NFL team, etc...) and flash the lights when the game started (a less subtle reminder).

Anyone have an idea how to do this now that the ESPN widget is gone? (and without doing it myself e.g. Blink Lifx Lights When Your Team Scores (techtrek.io))

I miss a lot of games now...
