  1. Yes, you can add it along side your existing setup.  You won't be able to join zones and play the same music in-sync between native and sonos.  All of my zones are sonos and I like the flexibility and integration with C4.  Anyone in the family can start music the way they want (Airplay2, Alexa, Josh.ai, Spotify) and C4 shows the meta data and offers transport controls.  My recent add of Josh.ai system allows me to cast the voice back through my in-ceiling speakers as well.

Technically he can join audio zones from Sonos to C4. But it could be janky and require using both C4 and sonos apps.

Basically you need a sonos port. Connect both input and output to the matrix. When I’m your garage and playing music elsewhere in the house ~> add the port to that audio session then add the Sonos in the garage?

  2. Dumb question as I was looking at the IQ4 but am unclear as to whether I actually need a panel as will be using the C4 panels to turn alarm on/off. I really just need a hub that deals with security logic (although agree that not sure why this can’t just be programmed directly into C4 since I am just using wireless windows and door sensors that are C4 compatible)  but can’t find that.

You definitely need the IQ panel as that’s the “smarts” of Qolsys and interface point. You can have it in a central location and use the touchscreens to disarm and arm system. Only thing is if you want Auto Unlock or disarm of alarm it needs to be close to your front door or within range. Alternatively you could set it that when you use your keyfob to open the garage it’ll do activate the alarm

  3. This is what I have, touchscreen version with wifi: https://shopyalehome.com/pages/yale-assure-lock-2
This has wifi and bluetooth built-in and works perfectly with the Yale Access app.  Very easy to install and mine replaced an original C4 Zigbee Kwikset lock.  I also like the added feature of the included door sensor.  This allows the lock to know if the door is fully closed, partially open or fully open.  Prevents the door lock from being locked if any of the open door variables are true, when auto-lock is turned ON.

Do you have it tied into C4?

  4. You will need to reach out to Ozuno for information.
It does group multiple DALI lights together.
You can have one light in muliple zones for reference.  The zone can report state as minimum, average or maximum level of the members of the zone.

That’s actually pretty cool. Would you happen to know how many zones you can do? Or it’s the same with Dali groups = 16.

  5. The best thing for you is to go to a Control4 integrator near you, visit a showroom and see what you’d like your house to do or what you’d like to automate. Then work with them to achieve that. You can look here for a list of control4 dealers just look for one near you. https://www.control4.com/o/go-with-a-pro/

If you want to understand some of the cabling requirements check this out

If you can’t go to a show room this is a good starting point to see what could be possible with a Control4 system.

The sky is the limit, obviously budget and what you want will come into play as to what you’ll get done. Good luck

Do you need just the dock or the power supply as well? I have an extra dock but I need to see what was with it.

I’ll take whatever I can. Just the dock or the dock and the power supply

q1- as of right now our ea3 is controlling the thermostats, lights, and the speakers. when i stream music from tuneIn radio it plays throughout the house. Our main goal is for is to get the speakers on separate zones. family room we want as one zone so we can have surround sound from the tv and music.

main goal is to run our thermostats lights music blinds and tvs with the possibility to expand down the road. first time having a "smart home" so want to start with the basics

Hahaha I think you’ve already passed the basic smart home stage. Last question what amp do you have and how many zones of audio do you currently have.

from the sounds of it to create multiple zones you need Triad Audio Matrix. But in order to have the audio from your tv come out in your ceiling speakers maybe a little bit tricky. Not only that but you may introduce audio sync issues as the audio has to come from your tv then routed to the matrix and back to the speakers.

  8. Obviously you are new to C4, so let’s start here. You said you have a ea3 in the rack.
Q1. what exactly is the ea3 controlling?

Q2. What are your future plans? What else do you want to control? If you are unsure of what you want it’s probably a good idea to go visit a showroom to see what it’s capable of or some YouTube videos. Best thing you can do for yourself is figure out exactly what you want your system to do and create a plan to achieve it and not try to acquire this and that without a plan as some stuff will not work together properly.

Q3. How do you play your music, local sources, tidal, Apple Music, Spotify etc?

the reason I ask these questions is to better answer your question. For multiple zones of audio in which you want different music in each you need and amplifier and an audio matrix (2 seperate units - you have multiple different triad amps and triad matrix’s to suit your need). Before C4 used to have a matrix amplifier (1 unit) but as stated above it’s now end of life. There are other matrix amplifiers that integrate well with C4 like Episode Response Matrix Amplifier or Anthem MDX.

A Sonos amplifier will power up a zone of audio, but you’ll need multiple to power up multiple zones. For me the integration with control4 is meh. A Sonos port is a player or music source which you output the audio into a audio matrix to have it play in your other zones in C4.

Tried it and can't get it to work. My opinion is it won't work since Kodi is opening a "new window" to play the MPC-BE player which is not linked to Kodi somehow , as it uses it's own controls.

Have you tried to get it to work ?

    Thanks

I’ve used keymap editor and it works. My use case was on an Nvidia shield, in full screen video I wanted it so that when I press back the video will stop instead of playing in the background. To do this I went into the keymap editor addon, then edit then full screen video, then Browser back then you have 5 seconds to press the key you want on the remote. The last step is to go back to the first page of the adding and save config.

Hopefully that gives you an idea of how to get it going,

    Hi ,

i am using Kodi on a HTPC. The reason why i am doing this on an HTPC and not on a Streaming Device is because i need Madvr to work.

Now since Kodi isn't supporting DS Player anymore , i will need to switch to MPC-BE. In order to control if (Play , Stop, Pause , etc..) I will need to send Key Press to to Kodi.

I already have the KODI Driver from Chowmain. What i would need is the "normal" Kodi Buttons to work while in the GUI of Kodi , and while starting a Movie , MPC-BE starts up , and Play/Pause needs to mapped to "Space" and Stop to "X" (for example).

More importantly though to add Specific Commands like "S" to enable subtitles or so ....

Is this possible to configure that on the NEEO Remote ? or with an additional driver ?

    Thanks for any help.

You can use Keymap editor, this is a addon found in the Kodi repository. It allows you to change button presses to exactly what you want.

Call me crazy but the nicest keypad (aesthetically) of the 3 pictures you posted is without a doubt the black C4 Keypad at the bottom. The white Control4 keypad with the god awful glass plate looks terrible. Hate the way those engravings look too. The C4 faceplates really make the keypad look great. Don't use other brands of face plates.

And dont get me wrong I understand that glass is a premium product and plastic is a cheap product but that palladium keypad is a total gimmick. The glass wall plate looks so small and crappy. The engravings aren't centered. That thing will look super outdated fast. I dunno, I'm not a fan at all. I certainly wouldn't pay extra for that finish. The pricing is out to lunch on Palladium. The only room where that would even make make sense is in a bathroom... but even then. To each their own though.

Depending on the finish of the house go with Snow white (WAY better than regular white) and if you can go with Midnight black (way better than regular black) with a stainless C4 plate.

The way you feel about the palladium’s is the way I feel about the C4 stuff. Hence I just think they’d do well with a different line that’s not based on the current lineup.

If only I knew where to begin - a business idea create skins for the keypads. Allow for the same mechanism but different looking keypads.

Kind of not fair to compare C4 lighting to Palladium, that stuff is expensive.  That's like saying I wish C4 could be as custom as Crestron.  That being said the lighting line is due for a little facelift.

I get the price difference but they can introduce a new lighting device and call it their “premium range” and charge more for it.

  13. I love C4 but the reason I haven’t jumped into lighting that much is the keypads. Perhaps it’s just me or my taste but it seems C4’s keypads are still oldschool looking and don’t have the refinement that a lutron palladium keypad has.

I have a few dimmer pucks and switches around the house but I’d transition the whole house over in a heartbeat if they were to update their keypads to better looking ones.

again people always seem to go in arms over stuff like this but I’m not trying to bash C4 or anyone who has these keypads in their houses. I’m just stating what I’d like to see as an end user and hopefully C4 has something up their sleeve. Plus I’m also genuinely curious how one with a multi million dollar house with high end gear opts for the C4 keypads these days with the way they look?
