  1. How are the switches laid out? Are they 110 switches? 210 or 310? Should have all managed switches in that system, preferably 310 series. POE budget? Are the eeros doing mesh or are they hardwired? Unless there is no wire for it, I would have used hardwired access points. And as Mgreen said, if the zigbee is wacky, you'll have problems.

  2. A couple of things.

Disc to digital is only available for 1080pBlurays and older DVDs (and then limited to what is in the store). There is no D2D for 4k UHD discs. Now, a $100 blueray reader plugged into a Strato is all you need to catalog for D2D, very easy and convenient now.

If you have a kscape system and buy content, you basically own it. Technically it is probably a license, but once it is downloaded to your system, it works even offline. So even if Kscape closes down, if you have it downloaded, the content is there until the drives blow up. The only issue here is if you fill a server and can't add more content you can delete old content from your server to download new content and then it lives in your account until you want to download it again. At that point, if kscape were to close you could lose content.

IMO, other than the hardware cost, there is no better way to consume content than Kscape. As good or better video quality than disc. Way better than streaming. Mostly better audio quality than disc. Discs are limited to maybe 60ish gigs of data, Kscape files are as big as they need to be. Audio quality from streaming to kscape is so much better it is ridiculous. Streaming audio is like a transistor radio compared to the kscape audio. (and most 4k discs are close)

    Anyway my 2 cents

  3. As has been said, it can be done, but it isn't optimal. An 8x8 AMS is like 1600 bucks. This is not nothing, but in the entire project, is it that much more to avoid any pitfalls? You can add all 5 streams from a Core5 plus three other audio devices if needed, and avoid any issues with grouping zones etc. I dont think you can get 5 streams of tidal or spotify or pandora to play the same thing in sync this way. Especially the digital to dac to amp zone. Bite the bullet and get the AMS

  4. I don't think the Zwave radios in the Core controllers is turned on yet. I think C4 is still waiting on regulatory approval for that. But this might be outdated info. Also, even if the radios are on, I think the list of compatible Zwave devices is still very small, just like when the Zwave dongle was available with the EA controllers. All of this is from memory, which may not be accurate!

Other than this new AVA "remote," does anyone hear of rumors of C4 adding or upgrading a remote? I have a 260 in my family living, the NEEO in my living room, but want something for my bedroom. Figured if something new was on the horizon, I would wait for it and move one of the other remotes to the bedroom. I have no interest in the AVA, as I already have a perfectly fine Android tablet and an iPhone.

But this isn't a C4 product. Its a third party device. And it isn't a remote, its an android touchscreen crammed into the form factor of a remote.

Nothing has been announced for a new C4 remote.

It’s not that crazy. C4 customers overpay, or more charitably, pay more than they would for otherwise comparable or better equipment, for a lot of items because they are part of the ecosystem. Why not this?

I'm curious what C4 pieces you think people are overpaying for that you could get better and cheaper elsewhere?

  7. Don't use C4 Video Matrix. Use AVPro Edge if doing a matrix. Game consoles won't work centralized, no way for the handheld controllers to connect to the console from any distance.

Shields, Rokus behind TVs and audio fed back to Audio matrix saves a ton of $$ on video distribution.

Many ways to skin this cat, but good video distribution will blow your budget right off the abt.

Thank you everyone for your advice!! Really, much appreciated. Always good to see how others think about this as I am an end consumer in NYC and just like to do my research. I will likely order the keypads and the normal (non-essential) line for high value rooms where I am more concerned and then use some of the essential line for the less important rooms. There are a lot of 3-way switches I will try and use the auxiliary keypads for as well.

Does anyone know where a current pricing sheet is? A friend of mine in Canada is also looking to do some of this and he says he is being quoted $345.00 CAD ($275 USD) for a dimmer/keypad combo, adaptive phase dimmer at $292 CAD ($233 USD) for a adaptive dimmer. These prices just seem higher than I might have thought.

Your USD prices are high. No idea if those canadian $ prices are correct. Adaptive phase dimmer $187 MSRP  USD. Keypad Dimmer $260 MSRP USD

I will prob go for the 75 Terrace Full Sun version, thanks for the help in choosing, in regards to sound output, I am not planning on using a sounder, I would like it connected to Sonance Landscape Series 8.2 set-up any thoughts on this set-up?

Finally looking for a Mount that can rotated 180- Degrees so that I can flip between pool and patio, Can use a ceiling mount or have some sort of enclosure, would prefer motorized if possible, any suggestions?

Future Automation or Nexus 21 for motorized mount. Future for sure has an outdoor/marine rated version. This mount will cost as much (or more) than the full sun Terrace.

  10. If you are being nickeled and dimed, it is your wonderful dealer doing that. C4 sells product and services to dealer. Dealer resells product and services to you. Unless you bought a 4sight sub from C4 directly, which is doubtful, you have never purchased anything from Control4. Maybe a 4sight renewal ($99per year) was a direct purchase. Other than that, every charge you have paid is to your dealer. All of your nickels and dimes are because of the dealer. Oh and any "terrible customer service" is, again a dealer issue. If you need after hours service, your dealer either offers it or doesn't. Has nothing to do with Control4. You as an end user have no point of contact with Control4, only your dealer does. The only time C4 ever steps in is rarely when a terrible dealer screws someone over C4 might step in to get another dealer on board.

Sounds like everyone of your issues stems from your dealer. And the fact that you sound like a DIYer that shouldn't have  purchased a dealer-centric control system in the first place.

Oh and Alexa does suck, but again nothing to do with Control4!

Anyone know the cost of the Micro? Any announcement on the sensors that will be included?  Any discussions with the company on their plans for enabling the ability to do internet searches (maybe using DuckDuckGo, etc.)?

Micros retail for $599 USD. The Nanos retail for $599 also. Core (required to use Nanos) retails for $1499. Nothing else is included. Software licensing starts at  $600 for one year license for 9 or less rooms
