  1. I have a honey well alarm system that already has wireless capability. I have tested my front door contact to turn on a light, and it is pretty instantaneous. I know I can purchase control4 door contacts and occupancy sensors, but if I go through Honeywell, it will be far far cheaper. As far as I know, my alarm system will be able to handle all the "devices" easily. I am trying to learn from others on whether they have done motion sensors/door contacts through the alarm and then used those contacts to control lighting and what was the downside of it.
  2. I finished programming all my lights and set up various schedules. I am trying to add some more nice to have automations added in. Every night at sunset, I have a series of outside lights. Starting a few hours later, various outside lights will turn off depending on where they are at in the house. Two of the lights, the front porch & rear security light turn off at 10:30. Another light What I want to happen is: If the time is after 10:30, and front door contact opens, then Front Porch Lights turn on for 10 minutes then turn off. Another thing I want to happen separately is : If the outside music speaker is on then the rear security light should not turn off at the 10:30 scheduler. Once the music is off, then 10 minutes later, the lights should turn off. The idea is that if we are outside, we don't the lights to shut off at 10:30 on us. But after 10:30, I would like the lights to turn off after 10 minutes. I'm not sure if this is the best way, but maybe the program would say something like : If it is 10:29 and music is on, the rear flood lights are on. Once music turns off, then lights turn off 10 minutes after that. What I also need some direction on is where I should put this code.
  3. Ah, i think I see the problem. I now picked Gen3 (Keypad) and the list was generated as I would expect for Keypad List. When I picked Gen1 (it was blank) There are 3 options and I assume this is what the three mean Button LED Color - I assume LED color means that you can pick a color that is now hardcoded. Button State - you can choose it to be On or Off which then uses the On or Off color that you designate (and can change the default on easily across the home) Set Background Color - This sets the backlight color Is this how you remember it acting? @RyanE, if there is any additional information you can provide, that would be very helpful!
  4. After having multiple discussions with my dealer, we decided that it is best to not bind the keypads so I can tinker with them as I see fit. Because they are programmed, I have to manually tell each button how I want it to behave in regards to LED. I came across the LED wizard in the forum which is now installed. In programming, if I go to the light source and then go to the LED Wizard as an action, I see something called Keypad List. When I click on the ... , it just brings up the control4 name, but nothing else to select. I would have expected to see a list of my keypads/switches/dimmers in this list so I can then program everything with 1 click. The way I need to program currently, I have select each keypad/switch in the actions panel and add the program to the Light source to execute. Are there any instructions on how to the use the LED wizard or those that used it, shouldn't you see more?
  5. Thank you very much for the information. Yes, sounds like having them bind it is the better option and let’s me do system wide changes very quickly. for binding, is there something I can do to make it faster for them to do it? is there a way for me take off the binding after it’s put on incase I want to change the programing? in your combo light write up, if I hit the individual buttons for stairs and another for hallway, I’d expect to see 3 buttons lit up ( stairs , hallway , stairs/hallway) , and if I just hit the stairs/hallway button, then I’d expect to see the 3 buttons lit up. Hopefully that makes sense
  6. I just had my control4 lighting system installed and my dealer set me up with home composer as I like to tinker and change things up. I finished programming all my keypads (30 of them) so they do the main action I want (turn on a light, turn on tv, turn on a scene). The problem is that whenever a button is pushed , the led color won’t change. Or if I push family room light on in one area (or it’s part of a scene), I’d like every keypad button with family room light on to show up as a certain color. I was told that I have to physically program each light (family room on) to every keypad button that has family room , and choose the set color for it. Same goes for off. This will be very time consuming and if I want to change the color or reprogram the keypads, it will be off. There has to be a more efficient way to handle this. as another question , I have a button (keypad button 1) that turns stairs and hallway on. It would be nice that the button would change to a LED ON color automatically if those two lights are ever on together. Meaning I go to other keypads and I hit those two lights so both are on. The idea is that whenever that possible combo is on (doesn’t matter how) then button that contains those lights will show as on (anything with stairs will be on, anything with hallway will be on, and anything with just stairs & hallway will be on). I saw something called LED wizard in previous posts but will read up on it i did see that a dealer could bind the lights for me which supposedly will handle the 1st part of the question for me , but is there a way for me to unbind it without going to back to them? I’d prefer to handle all the programming stuff on my own and not have them do the binding thanks again for the advice !
  7. I finally had my control4 installed and starting to go through the programming of all my keypads. I'm just learning how to do everything, but right now trying to make it somewhat functional before getting more advanced. When controlling the lights, my installer showed me how to program lights to the button via a "pressed" or single tap. I was told that pressed will give that near instantaneous reaction, but the single tap has the slight delay. That is because the system is waiting to see if any additional taps will be coming. While I can most likely get away with most of my buttons being "Pressed", having some buttons being able to be double / triple tapped would be very nice. The delay however will quickly annoy me and most likely discourage me from using that functionality. My questions is: Is there a way to shorten the delay on the Single Tap / Double Tap? I already have the delay set to 0 milliseconds
  8. Sorry, I don’t use the driver for fire tv. I’m not sure what my installer did for fire tv but from what I understand, fire tv is more open api, and they can fire commands more directly.
  9. I think there is another method for fire tv. I switched from google TVs to fire TVs. Unfortunately, with this new driver, there was still a lag. With fire tv, it was instant.
  10. Okay thanks, I’ll ask them today when I talk to them. I know the least painful way is to go to roku but google tv UI is pretty awesome. Would you recommend to go the irusb route vs driver? I can’t imagine anyone would use the driver with how slow the reaction time is on a daily basis.
  11. Hello, my installer put on IRUSB for me originally, but it crashed a few times over the week I was playing around with it. In addition, my power went off a few times, so the 5 minute reloading was a pain. They put on the google driver today in a few of my rooms. I gave the okay after playing with it for like 20 seconds, but once I really sat down at the end of the day, I am having regrets. The delay between pressing a button and having the action do something is pretty bad. Is there something that they were doing wrong that was causing such a delay? Is this a normal occurrence?
  12. I have chromecast with google TV set up on 3 of my tv's. My installer first put on IRUSB which was fast, but I found several faults with it over the course of a week. Our home flickered in power and the waiting 5 minutes for it to reboot was painful. In addition, at 3 times, the IRUSB would "fail" and need to be restarted through chromecast. I had to find the chromecast remote and then go over to the IRUSB app to restart it. I then had my installer put on Chowmain google driver. While some items seemed to work better, the time delay was very painful. Trying to channel surf or go through plex on it was terrible and made for a terrible customer experience. Now i'm left with what i see are 3 choices: Change over to Roku (but the chromecast UI is vastly better), use IRUSB, or stick with the google driver. How are others getting around this IRUSB issue which sounds like the better option? If it was just the 5 minute reboot, then I could probably get over it, but if it crashes multiple times, then its kinda pointless.
  13. Since google home allows you to create room and assign items to a room, is it possible to say a command in a room and then the action for that room happens? for instance, when I’m in my family room, if I say google turn on the tv. The google assistant knows that I gave the command to the google home located in the family room and then turn on that tv. I know the workaround would be to say a more specific command like , google turn on the family room tv. I was hoping to make it smarter so I can avoid saying the actual room. I’m more thinking it will be handy when trying to control the volume
  14. Not sure if it’s a normal thing, but I only see a few songs in the playlist. When the next song plays, I hit next , or select a song from the list, then more songs are shown and sometimes some existing songs in the list are no longer shown. when I add the playlist to the presets, the behavior I described above is still the same. is this how it is for control4 & Spotify ? Didn’t know if there is a way to force control4 to recognize all the songs in a particular playlist and display them all. Being able to select a song in control4 and not switching to Spotify is ideal
  15. I have 2 wall mounted iPad mini 4 (ios13) that I want to have control4 always show automatically once the iPad wakes up/restarts. It would be nice if I was on the watch screen, the iPad wouldn’t bring me back to the main control4 screen but keep me on the last screen that I was on. I also use this iPad to get to other apps so I don’t want it locked down into a kiosk mode. I’ll need to be able to get to Spotify to play music I am picking up a new Samsung tablet, so wanted to do the same thing on this one as well. Are there other tips/suggestions on what others have done for setting up a iPad for mainly control4 use
  16. I’m considering of using chowmain ifttt driver as a workaround solution to Insteon light system I have in my house. I haven’t tested it out yet, but it seems possible to have the two systems (control4 & Insteon) talk via ifttt. I have been reading up on chowmain’s driver and for inbound triggers to control4, ifttt will use pushover. I saw that you are limited to 10k messages (I assume actions) a month. While this sounds like a lot, it’s possible that when I hit the all off button at night, it might send 120 messages at once. I could easily blow past that 10k limit, but maybe there is a way to avoid that. my question is there an alternative to bring the ifttt command to trigger control4?
  17. I am trying to brain storm with my installer on bringing over my existing infrastructure ISY (25 keypads, 30 light switches/dimmers) into control4. The initial thought was to bring over Insteon into Vera, and then connect Vera & Control4. Unfortunately, after testing out Vera for a while, I wasn't able to bring in Keypads and the dimmers didn't really work on Vera. While the easy solution is to just replace all the devices, I am trying to brainstorm on other solutions that can get me there without the huge price tag of buying all new. I know there is a driver that was created, but I was told it may not work with my switches as they could be too new. Has anyone successfully integrated a clients Insteon switches / dimmers / keypads into Control4? What did you do? Is there another intermediary system that you could bring Insteon into, and then that system worked well with Control4? Any information or pointing me in the right direction would be very very appreciated.
