Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

Been trying to crack this for a while, tried most things I have read, with no joy! trying to get a Network File Storage setup pointing to a share on my Windows 8.1 Enterprise Machine but cant! Keep getting 'Unable to connect' all permissions are setup correctly, tried UNC name and IP, all lowercase....

Same problem here on Windows 8.1 Pro with all current updates.  Trying to get a HC800 controller to retrieve music from a Windows 8.1 machine acting as a dedicated server.  The HC800 sees the relevant shares but fails authentication.  On Friday, my dealer and I spent a couple of hours on the phone with C4 support without any success.  C4's formal response was they don't support network file sharing using Windows 8.1 and apparently has no intention of doing so.  Hard to understand C4's position.

I'm open to almost any solution other than buy another server but so far, no success.

Thanks you for your response.  Yes, it's turned on. :)   I earn my living in IT so I understand the issues.  The Windows 8.1 machine is successfully serving many files to many applications for many users on many different machines.  C4 support admitted the problem is on their end and they've known about it forever but have no intention of correcting it or publicly documenting it.   Not what I'd hope for from any IT company!

Windows LIVE essentials is the biggest issues. It breaks Samba sharing for MANY devices/services.

You'd either have to uninstall it, or edit the registry.

Neither is supported by ANYONE, including C4, Microsoft or myself - this is ALL at you own risk.

Some hints here.

Yes - not being supported is clear, windows sharing, technically, was NEVER truly supported.

It's also a poor substitute for a NAS to begin with.

All that aside - it's been made to work with the above mentioned settings.
