akg4y
I am programming my system to turn on lights while on vacation, but it crossed my mind that the motion detectors might sense that and trigger an alarm... I figure that was probably thought of and isnt the case, but can anyone confirm?

RyanE
I don't think lights turning on will trigger motion sensors.Standard PIRs are triggered by infrared frequencies (i.e. heat), not visible frequencies.I have one here in my office, that shows the red LED when it's triggered... Just toggled my lights on and off several times, no motion detected.I'd be very surprised if it was an issue, but to be sure, you can always try it yourself (with an assistant waiting to disarm the alarm if it were to trigger).RyanEEdited to Add: Also, they're not just triggered by heat, but by heat moving from one part of a sensor to another, so it's even less likely. I've also tried to trigger them with a red laser pointer, didn't work.

thecodeman
My cat does though You need those pet-immune ones. Unless you just have a big cat.
