Stand alone HDMI CEC controller

Recommended Posts

Hi. I’m looking to integrate a device into Control4 that is capable of HDMI CEC control, but doesn’t have any IP or IR control. It can be used only with its own BT-LE remote.

Are there any standalone HDMI-CEC controllers that I can connect this device through, which can then be controlled via Control4?

I believe that CEC control passes from the TV to the device.  So an IR driver for the TV would also control the device as that is the same as using a remote control as far as the TV is concerned.  Possibly an IP controller for the TV would also send the commands via HDMI-CEC.  But HDMI-CEC tends to cause a lot of headaches and it is generally not recommended to use with C4.

If the device is android and has a usb port, IRUSB will be able to control it via IP.

Otherwise, zaphod is correct that (when enabled) all menu navigation controls on the TV are also passed back to the source device via CEC.

That’s exactly what I’m trying to avoid - I don’t want CEC enabled on the TV, but I want a way to be able to control the source via CEC. I was hoping to be able to insert a CEC controller between the source and the TV, and and have CEC enabled only on the source and controller. That way, I get CEC control of the source without letting it affect anything with the TV.

The source is a Facebook Portal TV. I think it runs Android, but I’m not sure. Is there a way to find out? It also has a USB-C port, but Facebook says it’s reserved for future use. @videostorm any recommendations on how to figure out if it works with IRUSB?

Yep, that is Android but also very locked down by Meta.  To use IRUSB, you would need to be able to install our IRUSB app and the USB port must be functional.  The later seems to be true, but the former might not be currently.
