LG not turning on with WOL

Recommended Posts

Got a weird problem with a TV in a setup.

The first time it connects through SSDP it will turn on without a problem, if it was off when connected.
After it's turned of, the TV will never turn on through the WOL (yes, tried every possible thing with WOL and Turn on with Wifi / Bluetooth, SMPLINK is off).

This seems like there's no network problem (it turns on the first time), the controls are all fine and really quick.
It's on both the wired and wireless network.
Tried both networks alone, without result to get the TV to on.
It a LG OLED 55" C8 PLA.

Any suggestions?

Did you by any chance lose power to the TV?  I know with my 4 LGs, after every power outage, I have to cycle them on/off with native remote before they will accept C4 control.  A little bit of a pain since we are no strangers to power loss in SW Florida - but I guess it's not too often.

Yes, the TV is connected properly.

When the TV is off and I remove the driver and connect it again via SSDP, the TV will turn on with the "on" command, the first time.
When turned off, the TV will not go on again (only when I remove and reinstall the driver again).

The power is on.

Seems like a weird bug.
The LUA is also receiving the GET_POWER_STATE = on, when the TV is turned off.

Seems like a software bug somehwere.

Since there has been no power loss, the only other thing I can think of is making sure you have these 3 LG settings "on" on your TV:

  • QuickStart+ (that may be why your GET_POWER_STATE returns the value of "on" because QuickStart+ puts the TV in standby mode vs. power off state)
  • LivePlus
  • Mobile TV

I had to call my dealer a few weeks ago for one of my LG's where I did a factory reset trying to debug a sound issue and they had me check these 3 settings to restore C4 control.  That fixed it for me - hopefully something here works for you.  I have 4 different model TVs on a variety of WebOS versions, but these settings are on on all of them.  Also, I use the Annex4 driver.

btw - I never fixed the sound issue; I'm assuming that it's a TV issue which is weather induced.  The TV is an "indoor" LG installed outdoors on my lanai, so still under roof cover.  It's over 6 years old and been through 2 hurricanes.  Still has a good picture and we run sound through external speakers - so the sound problem is only an issue for native LG smart apps.
