WattBox WB-UPS-1100-8 Power cycling

Recommended Posts

Hello wonder if folks have seen this.  I have a a WattBox 1100-8. When powered up the front panel shows the input power as 120 and then drops to 24 volts.  the unit cycles onto battery and maintains an output voltage of 120.  After a couple of seconds the box will show 120 input power and it goes back to AC power.  This process repeats every couple of seconds.  Tried several different outlets as well as running it in a completely different building - same results.  Load on the watt box is a the control 4 controller, NAS drive, Apple TV, and a wifi router.  Tested with a single Usb charger for a garage work light and it does the same thing.  if I have no load on the box - nothing plugged in it seems to be stable.

I want to say the box is 2015 vintage.  batteries have been replaced and are less than a year old.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I had the same issue with two 2016 vintage units. I replaced both with new units and initially had the same issue. Eventually I went into the UPS settings and changed the voltage range from NORMAL to GENERATOR. Note, I am on a highly reliable power grid with very little voltage fluctuation and very few power losses. But still, GENERATOR range under the Voltage Range Setting fixed the issue. I believe these setting came out in a more recent firmware update which has caused this issue. I did not install my old UPS’s to test the above theory but would love to know what you find.

Thank you for the information.  I am guessing you need the software to do this?  Currently I have been programming everything via the front panel and don't see a generator vs normal option.  I only have ECO - the default, Buck and boost as options.

I doubt this unit has ever had any sort of a firmware upgrade.  To my knowledge it's never been connected to a network.  I inherited this back up as it came with a house I bought in 2019.

Probably worth noting that the unit did work back when I bought the house.  this is an issue that has slowly developed.  I have been offloading devices off the box for some time.  initially I thought that it might have too much load on it so I have been moving stuff to another power conditioner I added to the rack.  As I off loaded the problem stoped but now the watt box can not handle charging a phone with our cycling.
