As the press release states, Denon already had recievers and blu-ray players that were control4 certified (the AVR-4310CI, AVR-3310CI, AVR-2310CI, AVR-990 and AVR-890, etc.).

So does this press release mean its next round of recievers will continue to be control4 certified? I guess I'm glad that Denon isn't ditching control4 certification, but there doesn't appear to be anything new here in terms of technology or control4 compatibility. Correct me if I'm wrong, please.

Are the Denon products allowing C4 to control the receivers via the ethernet prots or are you still required to connect via the 232 port?

Some of the Denon recievers have an ethernet port, and for most (if not all) of these there is an IP driver available, which all adds up to IP control.

whats the advantage of IP control? is anyone here using it currently?

I control my Integra DTR 7.8 receiver with IP.

Advantages

1. You will not run out of serial or IR ports.

2. Less wire. You only need one cat-5/6 to each device.

3. It is 2-way communication

Anybody using a Denon receiver (3310?) with the IP driver? Seem that caused

an issue with my friends system. The theater 3310 was bogging down the ethernet

network causing all sorts of C4 issues. A full power cycle has fixed the issue so

far.

Funny that this Control4 certified product would cause this issue. Granted it may

just be their individual unit, but who knows. I've seen other places where the 3310

has had issues with its ethernet port but that seems to be where it stops working.

I was almost thinking that maybe it was the way the HC-1000 handled the 3310

having issues, but this is just thinking out loud.

I currently have a Denon AVR4311CIBKEU, C4-HC300C-E-B, C4-8AMP1-B using ir to control the Denon. I use a iPad with Control4 MyHome 2.1.0. When I change the volume of a zone using the c4 amp the gui feedback displays the percentage of volume and there is a slider. When I change the volume of the zone fed by the Denon amp there is no control feedback.

If I change the control of the Denon from ir to RS-232 will I have a volume control slider and percentage?

I have a Denon 3310-CI and had to switch from IR to RS232 to get programmable volume control (vs. just up down w/ remote). More specifically to get it so I could have programming that set my volume at a specific value, I had to use RS232. However, I'm not using the zones in the way you describe... I just have a main zone and use my C4 controller for a 2nd.

This happened at a customer's house. It wasn't flooding just the network, it was flooding the master controller with commands which crashed the project and mesh. I found info that it was a firmware issue with the denon and there was a firmware upgrade that should fix it. The customer wanted to switch to ir and not even bother doing the firmware upgrade to see if that fixed it, so we didn't get to test the new firmware. We recreated the mesh and all has been well since. It took a little over a month before the denon crashed the project, before that it was working well with control4 via ip control.
