  1. This might work in my scenario. I have 24 zones of regular audio and I have 14 Echos. So this could achieve what I was hoping. Basically, whatever Echo picks up the command, that Echo would be assigned to a certain room (likely the room I'm in or nearby) that would then play that music?
  2. Thanks. I'm not designing the system strictly on voice. Its just an add on feature. I will have touch screens, keypads for blinds and lighting scenes, mobile phones for control, etc.
  3. I have a 24x24 and a 8x8 that I will use. Can you explain what you mean by using an auto trigger? What purpose does this serve? Wont the Echos always be on and listening?
  4. I understand if C4 can’t do this, I was just under the assumption it could and that is why I wanted it. You know, actually walk into the Kitchen and say “Alexa, play playlist #1 (or something like that)”, and have the playlist start playing on the distributed audio. Seemed like a very basic function, but I guess not from what you guys are saying. I will probably still wire and place the Echos as it’s fairly cheap in the scope of things. Don’t know how much I will use it now though.
  5. So I have (14) Echo 3rd Gens spread out over the home. I was running two Cat6a to each, one for POE power, and one for conversion to 3.5mm. These will be run back and connected to the matrix as 14 sources. So if I’m in a room and want to hear a song through the C4 distributed audio system, I cant tell Alexa to do this?
  6. Sounds ridiculously complicated( no offense)! Sorry guys don’t mean to be negative, it itches at me a bit just considering all the money I’m spending and looking to spend on C4 and then discovering all it’s limitations. I’m no professional, but have come up with several things on my own I would like to have the system do and have ran into obstacles on each one. And again Im not a professional, just things that seem like they should be very simple to do. A lot of times I get the impression (besides the native lighting) that C4 takes great functioning stand alone manufacture apps and consolidated them under one umbrella that all perform just mediocre!! Lol
  7. In your Kitchen scenario, that would play through the C4 distributed audio, or just play from the echo?
  8. All, So I was visiting with another member and I found out something that may convince me to sell all my Echo Dots and skip Alexa in a new home construction. I have never had Alexa before do this is new to me. In my own mind, I was just assuming that once installed I could simply ask Alexa to Play a favorite song, she would relate the info to C4, C4 would locate the song via my music service and play it. I was told it’s much more primitive and this can’t be done!! This is crazy to me. Cant this easily be done with Sonos? So in my mind, what does Alexa really do? Dim a light, lower a blind, is that really it?
  9. Exactly my situation. Many have the same type of setup because many have box cams for when UPS or Fedex drop off. This would be extremely handy to simply have it be split screen when door bell is rung. Is there anyway to accomplish it be having someone write the code for it or something like that? Seems like a simple no brainer since the TS has to draw from the network anyways
  10. (3) PAMP 100 for the 24 stereo zones (2) Crown CDI amps for landscape zones (7) misc amps for the subwoofers tied to some of the stereo zones
  11. Ok, now that makes sense. I’m using one 24x24 and one 8x8. So those extra amps will only come on when that set of zones is turned on. Great!
  12. Ok, should probably sell the DS2 then, huh? Or do I still need that to be able to communicate that the door bell has been rung? Like I said my last post, its crazy that a door to door salesman peddles a system that can easily do this and it actually looks great, whereas the C4 system can't do this and its 20 times the cost. Always been my battle with C4 and sometimes justifying it.
  13. But again, even on that last scenario when say just the kitchen zone is turned on, then all amps for in the whole system switch on. So I would have about eight amps plus the PAMP amps that would constantly be turning on and off. Is that the way to do it?
  14. And then too, what about all the subwoofer amps? Do I want them on all the time? I was thinking of daisy chaining the PAMP triggers and then out of the last PAMP in line, running that 12v trigger to a triggered power strip. Plugged into that triggered power strip, I would have two Emotiva ET-3 trigger distributors for the sub amps
  15. Are you saying they stay on all the time?
  16. All, So this may seem like a stupid question, but please bare with me. Lets say the C4 system has multiple Triad PAMP amplifiers. When one zone is turned on, does the system automatically turn on all amps every time because the 12v triggers are daisy changed together? I assume this is how it goes. So my other question is, if I have many more amplifiers to power subwoofers tied to several stereo zones, would all those amps also be switched on every time a single zone is turned on? Seems kinda wasteful and demanding on the amps to have them all switched on and off everyday when they are not even in use?
  17. Dang. That seems like it should be a fairly easy thing and common event to have happen. Just another simple thing a $600 system can do but my $30,000 C4 system cannot..haha
  18. Also if I'm looking for 70+ POE ports, can you suggest which midspan(s) exactly you would use and also then which network switch(s) you would use if you were doing a new setup?
  19. That is a better idea. Network switches are pretty cheap if you don't have to worry about the POE capabilities. Does using a midspan create any problems with delay or communication?
  20. I’m thinking a good option would be a couple of the XMS-5248P, but maybe I’m incorrect
  21. Please shoot me a model number for the multiples that you would use in my scenario. I want to see what you mean
  22. Ok. Any good switches you recommend. I previously used 48 port Netgear switches
  23. I might need that many. In a situation like this, what switches would you recommend? And this may be a dumb question, but can POE+ switches be only used with POE+ devices? Or can any POE devices be used with POE+ switch?
  24. Echos, cameras, touch screens, blinds, access points
