What would be useful is for Matter (as it's the best possible hope to some form of standard, not that it seems to be going anywhere soon) to transport alert broadcasts from appliances and the like.
Then the chosen front end can be setup to subscribe to those alerts and push/announce/react on them.

Alexa - "The upstairs dryer has completed it's cycle" "The Kitchen fridge door is open"  "The Grill thermometer has reached 175 degrees"
No more vendor apps, no API, no cloud, no servers. Just an agreed on LAN broadcast of an ID and a Message, conforming to a format.
I don't need to start my washer remotely, still need to put the detergent in it, but let me know when it's done, or an error.
One way communication would be cheap to implement, and a sell point and show a user benefit.

I don't need to see what's in my fridge, until you can tell me which shelf the mustard jar is hiding behind, or who ate my leftover pizza.

We are still in the phase where these vendors think having their own app will set them apart. Nobody is buying a refrigerator, dish washer or wash machine because of its connected features, they are buying it for the job its supposed to do. Once they realize this then maybe they can come together and make a simple standard for external systems to use.

That mentality is changing. But it still doesn't me I would pick unify. I would pick fortinet before unifi

I would say most would for a corporate setting as well but what about real estate or insurance offices with like 5-10 people. i think this is where unifi fits in (along with the home market).

In no small part i am sure because Cisco do not release firmware which borks their kit (or at least not in a long while). Unifi have demonstrated a tendency not to fully QA their revisions which causes a lot of issues across the full spectrum of customers and despite it being GA. Their wireless AP lines are pretty solid mind.

That and the "nobody ever got fired for buying IBM" corporate mentality. Cisco is always a safe bet for networking. Even if they had lots of problems no one would get in trouble or question why you would go with Cisco.

Don't consider them touchscreens at all. They're super fancy 'touch' keypads.

'Touchscreens' in C4 world are full scale visual/user interfaces that give you your whole home to control in every aspect, a keypad is a programmed control point set to do specific tasks.

If you asked the average person to look at this device and the C4 touchscreen they couldn't tell the difference.

Looking around at documentation it appears that this device cant do the intercom function.

My dad has composer which will make it easier... please help me, also my dad knows everything about composer and c4 except drivers and making drivers so if that helps maybe just maybe

Then got get a paper route. This isnt for you.

My comment has nothing to do with C4. A lot of us integrators dont use ADI for reasons.

However, if you think things were slowly evolving  for Control4 now.. just wait.

gotcha. i guess i was just saying its not like C4 will get shutdown or anything.

Yes. But it will be fine for single room use. It’s designed to run an AV system, TV, or a theater - not a house.

Ok thanks. Surprised it is less powerful than an ea-1 since it is new but if they are really trying to keep it to one room then that makes sense. I ask because I see lots of people think you have to had to have an ea-3 or ea-5 for a whole home (when they were the latest controllers) when depending on what existing audio and other third party decides you had an ea-1 would have been plenty. Right now I have an ea-1 acting as my main controller and an ea-3 being used for audio only. Will probably switch the ea-1 for a CORE 1 and the ea-3 for a Sonos port when the time comes I have to upgrade.

Not exactly. Unifi does not have any rear port switches for example. Network switches are all somewhat the same and usually pretty good by any brand. Now that Araknis routers have OVRC and a half decent firewall they are not an awful choice. Id still use a more advanced firewall.. so thats 3 brands.

Network management software is really just for convenience. Most network parameters are universal. The macbook going to sleep doesnt cause APs to go offline.  I know this because I run lots of networks both ways.

From what he is saying the aps are not going offline. He just can’t get the management software to connect.

This is a very good point and my statement was over simplified. However, I believe the blue light indicates the AP is connected to both power and the main network connection. Per Unifi, a steady blue light is normal operating mode and the AP is broadcasting Wi-Fi. Also, I know that some devices are connected to the AP that appears disconnected in the Unifi controller (my Mac).

So what is actually your issue? Is it that the Macbook you have the unifi network application running on is disconnecting to the AP's? If so this is probably due to the fact that the macbook goes to sleep. i dont think you really have a problem at all.
