    So far, TCL specs are good, but usually in most non-sponsored reviews, they are mediocre at best for the spec comparable range of TVs. That can still be a 7 to 8 out of 10 overall quality score, but those scores are then comparable to other TVs from Sony, Sammy or LG that are more in the same price range or a bit above.

    In the end I simply don't think one ought to compare a starter brand's like TCL's specs face value. If you want an 85" TV at a good deal, there's nothing wrong with it - but compare it to a more similarly priced mainstream, not the 'latest and greates'

    I get what you're saying, but I guess that's part of what I'm asking and stating. From a spec standpoint, it appears the TCL is pretty on par with the QN90A. Do you disagree? Also, what TV do you think the best 85" TV is right now priced at $5k or less (I'm not looking to spend more than $5k). From what I can tell, the QN90A appears to be the best option, but if you or someone else thinks otherwise, I'd love to hear your thoughts.

    What is the reasoning behind the specific Samsung?

    I guess I ask because I'd rather buy a 2000-3000 Sony XBR 85" than a TCL....or a different Sammy in that price range

    You're essentially trying to choose between a top of the line Samsung and an off-brand that is priced among 'regular' (=very good) main brand devices, so I'm curious as to the reasoning.

    Fair questions. Part of my reasoning has to do with the fact that both the TCL and that specific Samsung are mini-led. There is one other 4k mini-led Samsung that is about $1k cheaper, but it has an IPS screen (rather than a VA on the higher end Samsung), so it's contrast isn't nearly as good. As for the TCL vs other Samsung's or Sony TVs in the $3k price range, I'm open to the Samsungs or Sonys if the quality of the comparable TVs is just as good or better than the 85" TCL. From what I can tell, however, the Samsungs and Sonys in the $3k price range aren't as good as the TCL. I think the TCL also has a VA screen. It seems to packs a lot of value for a relatively small amount. Thoughts?

  3. Hi All,

    Looking for some input. I currently have a 2016 Samsung KS8000 LED TV in my living room. The TV is great, but we just finished our basement, so I'm playing musical chairs with TVs and using it as an excuse to upgrade it to an 85" TV. I've decided LED still makes the most sense due to the brightness of the living room, and have narrowed it down to a couple different options, but keep going back and forth on which one to get. Option 1 is the Samsung QN90A (85"), which appears to arguably be the best 4k LED TV on the market right now, albeit the most expensive as well at $5k (although I expect this price to drop to around $4k sometime in July for a little bit). The other TV I'm considering is the TCL XL (85"), which retails for $3k. From everything I've read, the TCL XL is a fantastic TV, and rivals the QN90A, however it appears to lack HDMI 2.1. I also am a little hesitant as stings.com hasn't reviewed it yet, and I don't know much about TCL (although I've generally heard good things). Although I can afford to pay for the QN90A, and have been leaning to that TV recently, I'm having a hard time paying that much for a TV, b/c I know the price is definitely bloated (and Samsung's definitely aren't perfect). On the other hand, I don't know much about the reliability of TCL, and it's still $3k, so I don't want to regret paying a little bit more if the picture quality, longevity, or general satisfaction will be greater with the Samsung.

    Anyone have any experience with the TCL XL 85" (or TCL) in general? Do you think not having HDMI 2.1 is a deal breaker? I don't plan on upgrading the TV again for a while, unless some crazy compelling new technology comes out that makes me go into fanboy mode lol.

    Any thoughts/advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance!

  4. Anyone else have issues with a TS3 originally bought brand new going bad only 3 years after purchasing? I have three of these things and literally every single one of them has gone bad after the warranty ran out.

    Yes, electronica go bad sometimes and inevitably they will fail, but the fact that three of them have gone bad after only 3-4 years is absolutely ridiculous, and tells me that there is a flaw with the design or crappy parts were used.

    Before anyone tells me that maybe something is wrong with my setup, there isn’t. All three TS3s have had something completely different go wrong with them.

    The latest one (and only one that hasn’t been replaced) to go bad won’t respond to touch in the middle of the screen. C4 needs to make this right. I’ve spent way too much money with them over the years, and this just pisses me off.

    3-4 years longevity for a product that doesn’t even get abused/thrown around is absurd. I’ve had some the SR-260 screens go bad, and that’s not surprising  when you have kids and things get sat on accidentally, but this is a completely different story.

    Anyone else feel this way?

  5. All,

    I've pinpointed the issue to the directv drivers. The audio on the directv initially works fine, but then randomly will lose audio until I power cycle the wyrestorm matrix. With that being said, the audio only is an issue with the directv receivers. There is also a couple apple tvs and an uhd blu-ray player that works perfectly fine on the same matrix. Upon investigation, into the directv ip drivers, it's giving the following error in the log:

    HTTP/1.1

    403 Forbidden.

    Content-Type: application/json; charset=UTF-8

    Date: Thu, 3 Dec 2020 14:16:42 GMT

    Access-Control-Allow-Origin: *

    Connection: close

    Content-Length: 145

    Reason: Command not allowed.

    {"status": {

      "code": 403,

      "commandResult": 1,

      "msg": "Forbidden.Command not allowed.",

      "query": "/tv/getTuned?clientAddr=2CA17DDED011"

    }}

    I've tried deleting and reinstalling the driver, but no luck. I'm guessing the audio issue has something to do with this error. Anyone have any suggestions?

  6. Hi all,

    Has anyone had any issues with a wyrestorm MX-1010-H2XC video matrix and OS 3.2? Everything appeared fine after upgrading to 3.2. Audio/Video work perfectly. However, when you switch channels and then go back to the previous channel on any video source, audio is lost. The only cure seems to be to restart the matrix. This has never been an issue previously, and the matrix, EA-5, and video sources are all on static IPs, so I'm at a loss. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance!

  7. Has anyone purchased and/or used the Bond Home Pro to integrate with C4? Bond advertises it on its website, and it seems like it would definitely be better than the standard Bond given that it has an ethernet port and the standard bond doesn't, but I can't seem to find any way to purchase it. I'm starting to wonder if it hasn't actually been released yet.

  8. Somehow either the RJ45 jack or the circuit board on the backbox to one of my T3 touchscreens randomly went bad on me the other day, and now I can’t power on the screen via poe. Extremely strange, but I verified it by running tests on the cat6 cable, and testing the affected touchscreen by swapping out the defective backbox with one of the ones on my other T3 units temporarily, and the touchscreen powered on perfectly.

    Anyone have a spare backbox laying around? Funny thing is I had to replace one of the other T3 touchscreens last year, b/c the screen randomly crapped out, and I threw away the back box that came with it, because I doubted I would ever need it....the one time I throw extra parts away, and of course I end up needing it lol.

  9. Can someone post a working link to Jesse Smith's ATV IR driver? The current ir driver in the c4 database is almost completely worthless. Play and pause don't work.

    Also, anyone have any thoughts on if we're going to get new c4 controllers in January? HCs were released 2012, EAs in 2016, so maybe some new ones in beginning of 2020? Trying to decide whether its worth it to upgrade at the moment, or if I should just sit tight.

    Thanks in advance for the driver link.

  10. Check the documentation, I believe you have to have Option 3 selected for how you’re describing your wiring.
    Also, short C3 to common with a jumper wire. If it changes state, you’ll know your issue is with the sensor itself, if it doesn’t, you’ll know you have a configuration/bindings issue.

    Yes, i selected option 3. Ok, so if the state changes with the jumper wire, you’re saying the z2io is bad or the rail sensor is bad?

  11. In the process of hooking up a garage door with Z2IO. Got the garage door to open and close through c4 no problem, but can’t seem to get c4 to change the state of the door (open or close status). I have the magnetic rail system connected and wire run back to the Z2IO. Red runs into C3 and white goes to common....I have tried it other ways too, but my understanding is that they way I previously mentioned should work. Also, have contact sensor bound in c4 to the z2io contact sensor

    What am I doing wrong?

    I noticed that if I invert the relay on the relay sensor, it changes the state of the door, which I guess makes sense.

    Just can’t figure out why the magentic contact on the garage door rail system isn’t being read.

    I’m sure I’m making a stupid mistake. Any help greatly appreciated!

  12. So one other thing I'm curious about....I don't think it was already discussed, but if it was, my apologies. Does anyone know if 3.0 will let you change/customize icons for a device? I know you can customize the screen savers and rearrange the icons, which is good, but it would be nice to be able to modify the icons as well. Modifying icons as of right now is sort of a pain.

    it's just been very clearly stated many times. asking again isn't going to change the outcome

    It may have been stated multiple times, but it obviously wasn't completely clear to me, which is why I asked for clarity - I wouldn't have wasted time asking the question otherwise.

    Correct.  If there are any HC-250s in the project, the upgrade tool will abort.  They must be entirely removed from the project in order to upgrade to 3.0.

    You can have an HC-800 as your main controller running 3.0, but the video output will be disabled.  You can not have HC-250s in the project running 2.10 while the HC-800 director is running 3.0.

    If you need wireless IR, the Control4 Zigbee to IO (Z2IO) is a great alternative.  It provides 2 IR outputs and requires only power (5v DC through USB, wall adapter included).

    Thanks for the clarification/confirming. Much appreciated!
