Anthem MRX 720 locking up

Recommended Posts

Still not sure if this is a Control4 issue but I have an Anthem MRX 720 integrated into a system with the correct driver. I have it set to a static IP address. Every so often, the anthem receiver will completely lock up and nothing will work. Physically pressing the power button on the front of it won't even do anything. I have the latest firmware installed on the receiver and it is still doing the same thing. I end up having to power cycle it through the customers mybakpak site on the PE09. When it power cycles, a loud pop comes out of the speakers and it startles the customer.

I suppose the next thing I could try to test if it's a network issue would be to try controlling it through RS-232, but I've had issues with that before.

I seem to be having a lot of bad luck with Anthem receivers in general. They sound terrific but the issues they are having are almost making it not worth the hassle of installing them. From input issues, power issues, and locking up, they seem to be quite a nuisance. Does anyone else have issues with them in their Control4 systems?

I have an MRX 720.  It sounds great “WHEN IT IS WORKING”.

I have had the “Power Fail” safety kick in on 4 separate occasions, each time requiring me to send the unit in for repairs.

This is no doubt a chronic issue related to poorly designed power distribution and improper grounding.

How is Anthem getting away with this?  Is there a fix for this chronic issue?
