GoGo Delicious Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 #11 Kills this also.We are looking for an additional Lead Installer/Programmer in Los Angeles with Control4 experience. The successful applicant MUST have the following:11. Your own laptop capable of running CCP, Integration Designer and C4's Composer (this can be financed against your paycheck if need be)When was the last time your company said to you "You must have your own laptop or we can take the cost out of your paycheck." All our employees have 2 company issued laptops. 1 Mac and 1 Windows. I would never expect my employees to furnish their own laptops EVEN THOUGH they already own one. As a business owner you should see the inherent risk of an employee using a personal laptop for company work.
chesterwilson Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 +1We give each of our installers a M5 and a Bentley in case they don't like German.
sjjanz Posted April 13, 2012 Author Posted April 13, 2012 Thanks for the feedback guys, but different business have different business practices and different go to market strategies. Whether one is any better than the other is a matter of opinion and nothing more. Acting as Judge and Jury that the job posting is "killed" just because you don't agree with what we are asking for seems a little bold don't you think? And I might question your business practices if you do things like rule out the entire Valley. Would you not instead at least look at the job scope and THEN decide whether it was something you want to do?
cdepaola Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 ^+1I have no boundaries to my business, if someone has the money to pay our fees we will do the job.
GoGo Delicious Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 Whether one is any better than the other is a matter of opinion and nothing more.Acting as Judge and Jury that the job posting is "killed" just because you don't agree with what we are asking for seems a little bold don't you think? No. As you stated in the first quote above it's a matter of opinion and that was my opinion. And I might question your business practices if you do things like rule out the entire Valley.A LOT of people on this forum, I would say 99% of them, do not agree with my business practices but I can careless. Would you not instead at least look at the job scope and THEN decide whether it was something you want to do?Personally no. I would first interview the client and see if it's the type client I would want to work or be associated with. If the interview with the client goes well then we will take a look at the job scope and see if it's a job we would want to take on. We charge for a proposal so before we even get to the job scope and start charging the potential client I want to make sure they understand how we work, what our policies are, what the potential client is expecting, what their needs vs wants are and are we a good fit for each other. Will this be a mutually beneficial relationship with us and the client.
Neter66 Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 11. Your own laptop capable of running CCP, Integration Designer and C4's Composer (this can be financed against your paycheck if need be)I am not commenting on business practice, nor the full requirements etc etc, but this requirement should be thought through. Also, I am not a lawyer. There are liability issues with employees bringing their own devices to work. Who owns the IP that is on the laptop? Who owns the 'project'?If your employee doesn't work out, or moves on to bigger and better things, and brings their laptop with them - but then a customer's project blows up, who's on the hook to reconfigure the system? There are also issues with corporate acceptable use use policies... Say your installer decides to take a surf on over to one of the many porn/filesharng sites on the Internet, and gets a virus, then infects your customers network. Who's responsible? You can't tell the installer what he can and cannot do with his laptop. Again, I'm not commenting on business practice, just that there are some serious issues to consider with employee owned equipment doing corporate work. ThanksD.
