Leap to Whole Home Video

Hello - moving in later this week into a home that has a C4 system that controls security, temperature, and whole-home audio (in-ceiling speakers at 8 locations).  Apart from cabling, what's typically involved in "making the leap" to whole home video?  Do I need a new ... ?

Depending on the age of the control4 system you may need/want to do software and or hardware upgrades for best results and recent features. It isnt particularly linked to making the jump into distributed video but any time you take over an existing system the network, existing gear, power conditioners that have remote management are things to look at.

As far as distributed video is concerned big things to consider are the existing cabling available, 1080p vs 4k, if all amps are in 1 rack or spread out through the house. Number of sources and rooms on the video switch can impact your choice to do a hdbaset matrix or HD over IP. Considering future possible rooms you want to add so you get a matrix that I'd scalable for the future.

Why do you think you need distributed video?  What are your main video sources?  How many TV"s?

It's a good description of what is usually involved.  Installing a bunch of cabling, buying a lot of infrastructure, significant installation time, etc.....

But hey, it's 2019 and now you can actually "ease into whole home video".   You can start small and add from there if you want specific features.  We have fairly recent white paper with some details on how to do this in C4.  http://www.video-storm.com/Downloads/why_netplay_c4.pdf

The paper is specific to our systems, but should give you a starting point for what functionality you are looking for.
