Audio from TV to Sonos AMP over Cat6

Recommended Posts

Is it possible to just use standard HDMI extenders to send audio back from a TV's HDMI ARC port to a Sonos AMP in the rack over cat6?  So that the Samsung remote can be used to control volume?  Or am I better off just using digital optical audio extenders, then converting to analog audio at the Amp?

Thanks Matt.  I can purchase myself through Control4/Snap.  So this works differently than just using any HDMI baluns and putting the transmitter at the TV and the receiver at the AMP?

i figured. yea this a balun specifically for ARC audio. there are Baluns with ARC built in as well but they are more expensive since they support video as well.

perfect, ordered a few...thanks again!

We use these in my setup.  They work, though I have experienced some occasional bugs with them (sometimes I lose audio and need to restart them).  Then again, I've had bugs with pretty much any balun and the price is reasonable.  They do work with Sonos Amps down in the rack.  Also major bonus is no lip-sync issues the way you get with optical.

@chopedogg88 How did this work out in your project?. Did you use SPDIF optical or HDMI ARC for audio output?

@Topspin14m I previously posted about the J-Tech Digital (JTD-3081) in this forum and was advised to use SPDIF optical rather than HDMI ARC.  Is a driver required for the AV Binary B-260-ARC, as I didn’t see one in the C4 driver database? I’m just using for 2.0 in-ceiling speaker set up.

If you only have two speakers optical is fine. You don’t need a driver.

Is there a class video about this topic, as I’m a subscriber. Thank you. 🙏

I used the Binary baluns, they work great and allow you to control the volume of the Sonos with the TV remote (optical does not).   Also the problem with optical (and Sonos) is that Sonos AMPs dont' have an optical or coax audio input...only HDMI ARC and analog.
