Can a ceiling fan be used with a dimmable module?

Question

Hello everyone,

I am currently attempting to control the speed of a ceiling fan using the Control4 8-channel dimmable centralized module. However, I am facing difficulties in locating the necessary driver on Composore. I am wondering if I require an additional driver to control the fan speed or if it is not possible at all. Can anyone offer any insight into this matter?

I have never used a dimmer module to control a fan but this sounds like a bad idea.

Install a C4 fan speed controller single gang unit close to the panel, hopefully you only have one.

Also make sure to look at the fan you have as many of the newer ones with RF remotes specifically say you will damage the unit with anything other than a switched control leg.
Alternatively if the fan does come with an RF remote wire the fan hot and use a bond bridge to integrate it.

Can't do that.

A lighting dimmer works by quickly switching on/off the CURRENT (Triac); less current at one time = less brightness.
An AC Fan Controller works by changing the voltage's FREQUENCY; reduced frequency = slower rotation.
A DC Fan Controller works by reducing DC supply VOLTAGE; lower voltage = slower rotation.

You can not interchange any of these.
