chinense Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 I have read with great interest (and respect) the various postings from C4 experts and I felt it would be quite useful to solicit opinions on a configuration chosen for me for a new home. I have included all components as well. Thank you in advance for anyone that took the time to respond! Here is what my dealer has recommended:BOWERS & WILKINS CCM664SR 2 WAY DUAL CHANNEL IN CEILING SYSTEM BLACK INNER SURFACE (masterbathroom)22 BOWER & WILKINS CCM664 2-WAY IN-CEILING SYSTEM SPEAKERS EACH (master bedroom)4 BOWER & WILKINS CCM665 2-WAY IN-CEILING SYSTEM SPEAKERS EACH (office, exercise)1 EPISODE CUB 100 WATT 8" POWERED SUBWOOFER (BLACK) (master bedroom)2 BOWERS & WILKINS CWM6260 IN-WALL 2-WAY 1" SOFT DOME TWEETER (EACH) living room1 BOWERS & WILKINS CCM664SR 2 WAY DUAL CHANNEL IN CEILING SYSTEM (dining room)2 BOWERS & WILKINS WM-4 2-WAY WEATHERPROOF INDOOR/OUTDOOR PORTED MONITOR (EACH) BLACK1 CONTROL4 BDP-CX7000ES SONY BLU-RAY MEGA CHANGER (output to video matrix)***FAMILY ROOM 5.1 SPEAKER TRIM-OUT***2 BOWER & WILKINS CCM664 2-WAY IN-CEILING SYSTEM SPEAKERS EACH1 MIRAGE UNI-THEATER LEFT/CENTER/RIGHT SPEAKER UNIT HARDWARE INCLUDED, BLACK EACH1 BOWERS & WILKINS ASW610 XP1 Includes professional installation per scope***MAIN AV RACK UNDER STEPS***1 CONTROL4 -4SIGHT 1 YR. 4SIGHT SUBSCRIPTION KIT1 CONTROL4 CHE-XXX COMPOSER HOME EDITION XXX1 CONTROL4 C4-HC300-E-B HOME CONTROLLER HC-300 (family room controller-video out to Rotel Receiver)1 CONTROL4 2URMK-B HC-300 RACK MOUNT KIT, ALLOWS HC-300 TO BE PLACED IN A STANDARD 19" RACK1 BINARY B5-COMP-2 B5-SERIES COMPONENT VIDEO CABLE)2 BINARY B5-AUD-2 ANALOG AUDIO CABLE (2 METER)1 CONTROL4-IPDKTT-E-B DOCK FOR IPOD1 CONTROL4 16S2-E-B AUDIO MATRIX SWITCH -16-V28 ULTRALINK C2-0.5M CHALLENGER 2 AUDIO INTERCONNECT CABLE1 CONTROL4 16AMP3-B MULTI CHANNEL AMPLIFIER-V3 (demo)2 CONTROL4 4URMK-B 4U RACK MOUNT KIT W/VENTILATION1 CONTROL4 TUN2-E-B MULTI-TUNER V21 CONTROL4 3URMK-B 3U RACK MOUNT KIT W/VENTILATION2 BINARY B5-AUD-2 ANALOG AUDIO CABLE (2 METER)1 CONTROL4 BDP-CX7000ES SONY BLU-RAY MEGA CHANGER (output to video matrix)1 BINARY B5-HDMI-2 B5 SERIES 1.3B CERTIFIED PREMIUM HD CABLE1 BINARY B5-AUD-2 ANALOG AUDIO CABLE (2 METER)1 BINARY B5-DIGCOAX-2 DIGITAL COAX CABLE (to rotel receiver)MIDDLE ATLANTIC RSH4A6X 6 RACK SPACE CUSTOM SHELF specify unit to mount. wappinghigh Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 Welcome. You'll love it! Wow B&W speakers. Unreal. My only comment is where is the HC1000 in all this?
NkySpike65 Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 If I remember right when you purchase the COMPOSER HOME EDITION, it automatically comes with a 1 YR. 4SIGHT SUBSCRIPTION... So you can hold off on getting the separate ( a second ) 4sight subscription kit for right now....
ILoveC4 Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 Did he leave off an amp? You've got an audio video matrix and two amp rack mint kits, but only one amp...just something I observed. Also, nkyspike is right about the 4sight subscription being included with Composer. Based on the quote this guy seems very detail oriented, which is good.

xc420 Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 A few things.1. No HC1000 for the amount of money invested in this system, I would definately get one.2. Premade cables. I hate premade cables = messy install. 3. Ipod docks have problems whether C4 or your dealer want to admit it. Maybe this was fixed reciently but I doubt it.4. This could just be the way it's written up but C4-HC300-E-B is the older slower controllers and C4-HC300C-E-B are the newer ones with a slightly faster processor for 2.0+ 5. As already mention ComposerHE and foresight should come bundled together (could just be how the list is itemized, I'm not implying anything.)6. BOWER & WILKINS are great speakers but $$$$.

stash Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 I would trade the 7" wireless touchscreen for an SR-250 remote and would agree with the other on skipping the iPod docks. Search the forums and you will see issues others have had with these two products. I also personally believe the 7" wireless touchscreen is a terrible value. You would be much better off buying an iPad and installing the control4 app on that device.Speaking of Apple products, I see lots of iPod docks, but no navigator software for the iPod/iPad??? Thinking you might want to investigate that option. Also, no lighting? IMHO the lighting is a GREAT aspect to having control4.Make sure you get the most up to date hardware that control4 released for the HC-300 and HC-200.
ILoveC4 Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 stash, while I agree that the 7" wireless touchpanels are overpriced, I have an iPad, two 7" WiFi units and three 10.5" WiFi units. I personally use the WiFi units all the time - basically anytime I am listening to music. I HATE having to unlock the iPad, launch the app, wait for it to connect, etc...The iPad is a better value all things considered, but if you're after what is the easiest and most convenient to use in your home the C4 touchpanels win hands down in my book.
panamagixxer Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 I have touchpanels in some rooms and never use them. We use the 250 remotes 95% of the time and my iPad when searching for songs on Rhapsody. If I had to do it again, I would not have put in the in-wall touchpanels.

SR250 remotes (14) and the IPad.
jwhitaker@revit Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 I think there are 2 of the amp rack mounts and only 1 amp because the other mount is for the C4 audio matrix.Nice set up! Can come "Hang Out"?
takitezsdc Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 YOU HAVE TO GET HC-1000!!!! DONT even think about NOT>>>>>>>>>>>>> I promise you will be sorry with that system, if you dont.I also have a SR-250 remote in each main room. ( master bedroom , family room , kitchen ect.) Not needed in kids room.................just put in a 6 button keypad in each kids room or a room that will not be used much.I also use my ipad and Iphone BUT the SR-250 is MUCH easier to use and you will love them!! Trust us........we are end users! /smile
thinslis Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 SR-250s are nice. I really like them. However my wife really likes the iPhone app because it gives her the graphical navagation in a portable format where the SR-250 is just a LED text menu and programable buttons.
ILoveC4 Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 I use the SR250's the most...but I really like the touchpanels.
Rsmolo Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 2. Premade cables. I hate premade cables = messy install.not always........http://www.c4forums.com/viewtopic.php?id=5709you can make mess with custom cables as well, it all depends on installer.
chinense Posted December 14, 2010 Author Posted December 14, 2010 You guys are awesome! Thanks for the posts, i am considering all of the feedback. A few things i should add:1. I have 3 C4 thermostats2. 20 switches and 12 dimmers to work with, may add more; also may add some of the LOZ-5S1-W Wireless Outlet Switches as they look useful. 3. A surveillance system that is still up in the air, so far I have a Panasonic BB-H735 (will use it with an IR kit to help brighten porch at night) and I am considering an axis 241q or 241qa or the axis 7404 encoder/server, plus 2 other fixed IR cameras that will be up high (dealer has recommended 2 GE Truvision domes that I am not feeling the love with) and a NEC DSX40 phone system with door stations. For some reason the dealer feels i do not need to take advantage of the 2 way audio capabilities of the Panasonic porch camera, which confuses me.4. I have multiple Ipad's, Iphones and Ipods but I read with great interest the comments about the SR250 remotes and whether i should invest in panels. I also have assumed that the ipod dock issues would be resolved but maybe i am missing the point of simply not getting them at all. Any more clarification on whether i should avoid them as a whole is appreciated. Also, the navigator software I do not know much about; yet another education coming my way. 5. My question to my dealer about not having an HC1000 was apparently a good question given the posts I have read. Is everyone recommending i have an HC1000 in addition to the controllers I am getting versus replacing one of them?Once I have a system installed and operating, anyone with interest (and maybe driving or drinking distance) is welcome to come to one of my parties; my cooking talent is far superior to my automation acumen.Interestingly, I did not mention how many hours of programming i am told I need for this system, and based on some of the "friendly banter" I have read between dealers and members, i am not sure if this holy grail should be broached? But i do feel it is an interesting variable. Again, i genuinely appreciate the time, effort and ideas, forum members have shared with me. Thank you!
wappinghigh Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 You've got a big system here. The HC1000 doesn't have any IR or 'control' features. What it does is run the system a whole lot faster, and a lot of forum guys will probably chirp in here and say you really might need one of these. So it is only used to run the 'brains' of the system. You can add it later, and get the dealer to move the primary navigator software off one of the other controllers onto it, pretty easily. This is what I did and it certainly quickened things up, and my system is much smaller than yours. I guess you could try what it's like without it, with a plan to add later if you want. But plan now, because it runs a bit loud(fan noise) so is best locked away somewhere. It really needs to be hardwired into your network, and being at the heart of the system it is best on a UPS backup. BTW you probably need to consider UPS's for your main zones. I'd have one in the main family room where the AV gear is as well.... The SR250 is the key to you enjoying a C4 system IMHO, I wouldnt squib on these.(Im saying this having an itouch and ipad controller as well) Enjoy... its going to be a great setup
henniae Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 I would highly recommend you add an HC-1000 to this system, based on what you have described as your current and future system plans.
xc420 Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 Interestingly, I did not mention how many hours of programming i am told I need for this system, and based on some of the "friendly banter" I have read between dealers and members, i am not sure if this holy grail should be broached? But i do feel it is an interesting variable.3-4 hours MAX and that's very very generous . Of course if you do a lot of customizations and lighting scenes etc. it could add a little more time. I'll Bite how many hours were you told ?
ILoveC4 Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 ^Identifying all the devices, adding all the drivers, making all the bindings, creating all the rooms, etc...If you can do that in 3-4 hours you my friend, are the man.
briankmc22 Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 get a sonos zp90 and the extra vegatables driver, its my new found love all over again for my c4 system... beats an Ipod dock any day of the week and has rhapsody and the internet am/fm station selection is world wide. Plus super fast selection from my itunes selection...
ILoveC4 Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 ^ Can someone post a video of this in action for me?I am having a hard time understanding the obsession.
chinense Posted April 27, 2011 Author Posted April 27, 2011 Thank you all for providing your earlier comments. I am here in April now with a dysfunctional system, I posted here (http://www.c4forums.com/viewtopic.php?id=7353) to determine what a reasonable amount of time was for installation. My current implementer is on hold while I figure out how to get the best value out of what I have paid for and what I now need due to their system design deficiencies (if they are actually deficiencies). I contacted the C4 rep for my area and explained to him my issues and concerns. He was very professional and said I was of course free to talk with another installer. I brought another company in to assess the first companies work, and they essentially said it looks like I need an HC-1000, an input/output expander, many dimmers, switches (including 2 & 6 button switches) and 3 Panasonic PoE cameras (versus 1 PoE Panasonic i was looking at and 2 analogs) and possibly a dedicated DVR for the cameras. They have no clue how to work with or integrate the NEC phone system I have (DSX-40) with door stations and 2 Baldwin wireless locks but they are thinking.
