  1. So now that the Comcast issues seem to have been resolved and have been relatively stable for the past couple of days, I'm happy to report that I can go back to dealing with the underlying problem...LOL

Network went down yesterday afternoon and again early this morning

As is the case 90 to 95% of the time, a modem reboot brought the connection back up

The only DHCP reservations we left in the Araknis router when dealing with the total meltdown that 60 to 70 reservations caused earlier in the week are my Mac mini (because it's running 24/7 Plex and SecuritySpy servers) and my two old touchscreens (since I'd been having issues with both, particularly the one in the kitchen that needs to be constantly reconnected to the Director)

One theory I had yesterday that doesn't seem to hold water anymore now that the network went down again this morning was that maybe my son's PC has something to do with the issue - he had been out of town since Thursday for a tennis tournament, so his PC had been asleep since then. Yesterday afternoon, I woke it up to actually use ComposerHE and within 5 to 7 mins, the network went down

So of course I put 2 and 2 together and thought hmmmm, maybe there's some conflict or something that occurs when his PC is awake that occasionally brings the network down

However, when he's home, his PC is on and being used a lot and most of the time the network is fine

Also, the network went down this AM when the PC is hopefully asleep, so not sure if there's anything to my hunch

  2. Tech couldn’t do much as Comcast said the outage was ongoing and also he said that his meter was broken (and had been broken for a month, WTH)

Anyway got a notification in the late afternoon that the issue was resolved and indeed it does seem to be the case, back to 600s down and 20s up

So back to monitoring for my original issue…

  3. Thanks for the additional advice/suggestions

At this point, I'll just be happy to get things back to the way they were as of yesterday morning/afternoon, prior to my dealer trying to reserve all the DHCP and all hell breaking loose

The slow upload speed is already very noticeable, not just in terms of the Plex and SS servers, but everyday usage too

I've never had an upload speed this slow (if you don't count my dial up modem days LOL), so am not used to it at all

If we can at least get things back to where they were yesterday....

  4. I’m sure the modem reboot time and the upload speed decrease are related with each other

However it would be way to coincidental for these issues to occur at the same time as all the router dhcp stuff so I’m convinced at least for now that the modem upload and reboot issues are related somehow to the router stuff my dealer did yesterday

Will need to see what speed he gets when he connects directly to modem

  5. This has not been fun

Basically he went in and deleted all the DHCP reservation (didn't save the config prior to making changes yesterday so no way to restore)

Several WAPs and even a Wattbox wouldn't come back online for some reason, it took multiple reboots and finally now it seems that things are back online

BUT, there's still a problem - the upload speed is still stuck at 2 whereas it was 20 to 25 prior to yesterday

Also modem reboots now take forever - before, rebooting the modem took about a min for it to come back online

    Now, it's 3 to 4 mins

Just got off the phone with Comcast/Xfinity - they did some troubleshooting including having me stick a paperclip in the back of the modem to factory reset it, but upload is still stuck at 2

I really don't know what could be causing this now, so frustrating

My dealer is going to stop by this afternoon to check and connect directly to the modem with his laptop to see what he gets as I don't have that ability (I tried before with an adapter and an iPad, but the physical connection was flaky)

Last resort is he wants to reset the Araknis which will then require reconfiguring whatever was setup previously, but don't know what else we can do or try or check in the Araknis config

Is there something about DHCP that could be causing this upload issue now?

  6. So my dealer logged in yesterday and made all DHCP reservations for connected devices as well devices that were not currently online but showed up in the DHCP table

Now, however, many devices either don’t have any internet connection or are very very slow

Normally, devices get 650 down and 23 up wired and 450 down 23 up wireless

However, now either devices show as having no connection at all or are getting 650 down 2 up wired and 25 down 2 up wireless

My dealer is going to see what could be going on but I thought I’d check here too

I’m hoping he saved the config before making all the changes so we can revert back if necessary

    Any thoughts?

  7. So I have 2 old 7” touchscreens: 1 in a bathroom that constantly reboots (see thread somewhere down below) and 1 in the kitchen that is almost either always just black or on a screen that says press to configure - when I hold down on the screen it shows that it’s not connected to the director, so I connect it and then it works for a little while before going either black or back to the configure screen

Now, if I swap the 2 touchscreen locations something weird happens - the kitchen one works fine in the bathroom location (and, the bathroom touchscreen with the reboot problem continues to reboot in the kitchen)

Any ideas why the kitchen touchscreen seems to work when I move it to the bathroom location?

  8. Hi I have a couple of 7" touchscreens that are buggy and/or dying and since we don't really use them that much, I plan on just taking them down and removing them from my C4 system

Originally, I was thinking about mounting an iPad mini in each location, connected with a POE doohickey for power and then use them to view camera feeds, Apple HomeKit stuff, etc.

I may still do that, but was also wondering if there are any other interesting gadgets that I can put in those locations since I already have power over ethernet running there?

Ideally, I'm looking for something that would only require the POE but also open to something that may also need an injector

    Any cool stuff out there?

    Thanks
