  1. Sony IP control works well. LG OLED requires expensive driver but works the same after driver cost. You can get additional features with driver that I don't think are available with Sony.

I really like my LG OLED but my 5 year old Sony has a better software in my opinion with android.

Sony OLED's are LG panels with android software. Can't go wrong with either but highly recommend an OLED panel.

    Hi there,

We just bought a new house that was fully equipped with a Control4 system.

From what I can see, the Control4 system I have is on OS2 (Version 2.8.1.514313-res) and I ask the local vendor and he told me that the system I have do not support OS3.

We have a home theatre, lights controls in most rooms, and speakers in wall as well as around the hot tub and the swimming pool. The system also includes multiple TV setup working with the Control4 remote.

So far, I’m a bit happy and frustrated. I have let a Control4 sales tech come in my house to configure the basics things with my account. Things are working not too bad as for the lighting and all TV’s, including the big screen and projector in the home theatre, but the music is another story.

    Question 1:

My music was ripped with iTunes using the AIF format. While my SONOS system sees everything without any issue, the Control4 system is not seeing any file, except a few that are in MP3 format. I saw old post dating from 2016 on this forums that AIF support was coming soon, but nothing saying when it was released if ever. I cannot understand that a 200$ SONOS speaker PLAY:1 supports this format, but the Control4 would not. Is it still the case in 2020?

My Music is on a Synology NAS if that makes anything more specific for the answer.

    Question 2:

On my iPad, I saw that I can create or modify existing scenes in the Control4 app. That option is not available on my iPhone, or at least, I couldn’t find it anywhere. But when I try to adjust the lighting on my iPad, by moving the sliders, the application Kinda resets to default and all the sliders disappears. The only way I found to adjust a scene was to adjust the lights with the wall controls, then hit the learn button and save. But even there, sometimes, the save button is not enabled, so I cannot save. What’s wrong? The vendor told me that my system could be updated to 2.9 and that may solve the issue, but he was not even close to be reassuring.

    Question 3:

The vendor told me that they are the only one who could make changes to my system. For example, when I asked to add my NAS to MyMusic, I had to call them. Something, again, I can do all by myself on the 200$ SONOS. Now, since it is not working, I also have no way to investigate what’s wrong. If I call again, they charge me 85$/hour for any changes, that is unacceptable. I have the feeling my house is under control by a stranger, and nothing I can do without being held by my hand.

On Control4 website they uses terms such as « you’re in control », but I do not feel that. I feel like I’m control by the number of dollars I have in my pocket. Is there any application or web software that Control4 let open to the end user to self serve a minimum of control (hey, it’s call Control4 after all)? I’m looking forward to expand my home automation eventually, but I’m asking myself if I’ll do it with the Control4 system, or if I will trash this and start from scratch with something brand new.

    Last question (4) for today:

Is there a way to have the Control4 stuff added to Apple’s Home Kit and control a few things with my phone or tablet?

Thank you all for the time you’ll take to read and answer my questions.

    Steve

@chopedogg88 and @msgreenf really helped me when I went thru upgrading my system the last few months. OS3 has a much better user interface.

Do you know if you can authorize against your o365 for admin consent?

I think I could make a driver if so. Basically it would be based on your teams status and then you can program off your status.

I think when you accept a call you go to busy status.

I'll ask my IT dept and see what they say. It might be something I can get approved. That would be wicked as I am always fumbling for my iPhone to get into C4 app and pause music when the phone rings.

What about cell phone calls. Anything possible on that front. I probably get more cell calls than teams anyway.

I put a request into Ooma - I am doing this thru the IFTTT driver and what is exposed on there is about incoming calls, not ending calls.  So there is an area to fill out a request to send to thec company (ooma) so I did just that

The only Ooma triggers now are:

    1) New voicemail

    2) Any incoming call

    3) Incoming call from a known number

    4) incoming call from an unknown number

So hoping they add something re: "ending of a call" per my suggestion

Let me know if you get an answer. I have a Microsoft Teams VoIP Polycom phone and would like that setup as well.

Ditto on Beta hardware but be careful as Ubiquiti releases a lot of items in Early Access and they "really" are beta and they use the EA groups to beta test and report for them.   On an AP seems low risk but then many times you have to upgrade your router/controller software to a beta release and that is what you may have a kids and wife relying on :)

I agree it was a huge leap of understanding to install the system with early access AP's. Having to SSH into the router to install a beta controller was time consuming to learn. Fortunately didn't have to change the UDM firmware. Manually changing the firmware on each AP was easier but still a learning curve for me.

Unless you have a want to learn and time to dig into issue's don't try early access items. It's not straightforward at that point.

My family all have newer iPhones and with the Intel AX200 in the PC's we will take advantage of the 802.11ax so it was worth it for me.

@Sooner Congrats! I also just got a UDM-Pro and my kids are also big streamers and xbox users so I'm looking forward to dialing it in, if you have any tips or tricks let me know!

Enabling UPnP allows for open NAT which is the best Xbox experience and seems to work well with the UDM. Considering putting the Xbox's on their own VLAN since they don't really need to talk to other devices and their is security risk to UPnP from what I have read. My kids claim they used to lag once or twice a day and have experienced no lag since with UPnP enabled.

Once logged into router go to settings/network/LAN and enable UPnP. If you haven't installed your UDM yet I suggest doing a factory reset before starting as mine wouldn't connect to the internet and I ended up trying several things and wasting an hour or so. After reset everything went smoothly.

  7. Decided to go with UDM Pro and couldn't be happier. Plan on adding camera's with protect and the built in NVR was a nice add. I decided to upgrade all the switches also since the small 5 ports that I put behind all the TV's are only $29/each. Signed up for early access and upgraded to 802.11ax AP's. Upgraded the 4 laptops to Intel AX200 module and wow what a difference. I will say learning the beta firmware upgrades was challenging but glad I went ahead and future proofed the system to some degree.

The UI took some time to get used to but starting to get the hang of it.

I've caught the bug and continue to look for ways to improve performance.

I had some issues with C4 connecting to the IR over IP after the upgrade. Changed all my ATV's and TV's to IP control with the help of @msgreenf and it runs a lot smoother now.

    Thanks for everyone's help.

You may want to consider an iterative approach. First get it all set up with a basic layout. Simply get it all working and get familiar. Then when you are more familiar and have evaluated the need a bit more then you can add vlan(s). I mostly mean be kind to yourself and ease into it.

I agree and definitely will get it up and running first but want a road map of sorts. Thoughts on making this go smooth also appreciated. I assume keeping DHCP range the same and static IP on HC800.

While I don't use the Cinegration driver, here is my setup. I'm taking advantage of their recently released UDM (Ubiquiti Dream Machine).  The UDM combines an AP, GB-capable IDS/IPS, CloudKey Management, and 4-port switch + WAN connection.

     - UDM
     - 2x Ubiquiti 8-60W (4 POE ports each) switches
     - 2x Unify AP AC In-wall  (from previous house)

The setup is pretty simple after that - two VLANs and two WiFi networks in my case for regular and regular-OT (C4 and IOT gear).  Plus a simple guest wifi portal.  You can assign VLANs based on port quite easily.

Purchased similar setup with UDM Pro, switches, and AP's. Why do you need VLANs and two different WiFi networks? Not a network guru but interested in why you decided on this format.

  10. Looking to upgrade router from airport time capsule that is only being used as router. Have Ruckus for wireless but ZD1100 is out of life for them so likely have to replace in short order. Any suggestion for these routers or others is appreciated. Knowing that I will likely change the wireless also in the next year or so. Fiber connection with teenagers who are all heavy streamers whether it be Xbox or 4K video content. Most devices are wired connections with switches already in place.
