Experience with no center channel speaker?

Elvis

Question

My wife is set on the TV centered on a wall. Doing so also centers it on a stud.

She suggested no center channel speaker instead of adding framing around the center speaker. Anyone have any experience with no center? Basically a 4.0 surround system? The receiver allows for it.

My system is torn up or I would test it out on the home theater.

Thanks for any opinions. Hate to join another forum just to ask this question.

It's the primary dialog / voice channel. Ive read before almost 50 % of the soundtrack goes there. That will be split to the sides as an in-phase signal to get a Phantom centre.

It may work but I'll prewire for a center in case you / she change her mind. Depends how dialog heavy your TV watching is. Especially at lower volumes.

Which she has already done. Turns out centered on the wall doesn't put it centered on the bed on the opposite wall. Thanks, anyway.

When you don't have a center channel,  the sound gets sent to the right and left speakers. The front stage will sound a little "stereo" if you know what I mean. Artison offers a solution where the center channel is built into the right and left speakers.
