Justin, been very interested in the Shield for my upcoming theater room build-out. What kind of control is built into your driver? I assume basic actions/navigation without direct launch of mini-apps? Would be completely OK with this if I knew the Chowmain Plex driver could use this as a client, but doesn't seem to be the case. Thanks in advance and kudos on all the work you've put in on this!

up down left right ff rewind skip back cancel home should all work.  I have a few other it codes that I put in there that are supposed to work like numbers and such.  but I have not found an app to try them.  I think I did every button that it supports.

the shield really doesn't need a lot of controls.  the basic remote only has a couple buttons.

what do you mean about daydream?  pushing any button wakes it from sleep.  I don't think I added the power button because I leave the device always on.

We have another solution to control Shield via IP now.

 

It works great on the shield also.  Very fast and no need to program a flirc.   It also adds an extra IR output  (so instead of using one up, it gives you one more).

Of course you'll want to change 'tv_ip_websocket_lg' to whatever the c4z filename is and you will likely want to change 'lgsmarttv_<size>' to something else. You'll also want to make sure it's bound to the right proxybindingid.
 

I see they still haven’t fixed that typo (height="130" width="120") in the Knowledge Base, even after my repeat notices… 🤷

And they should have updated that article to say that only 70×70, 90×90 and 300×300 are needed for non-Media Service Proxy drivers anyways. (And 70×70 and 90×90 are only needed for the legacy Flash navigators.)

So I had my own half-finished IR driver for the longest time too. I went through the pain of searching for a nice NVIDIA SHIELD TV render (I cannot find the source anymore, otherwise I’d credit it), downscaling the images manually in Paint.NET so the nice green V pattern wouldn’t get lost/smudged etc. This thread inspired me to finally clean it up and finish it.

Let me know how it works for you.

And I’d like to hear your suggestions on which buttons I should map these commands to:

I mapped A B X Y to their colors.

I think the bumpers were skip forward and skip back.  Can't remember the triggers.

Yeah you are probably right about the bumpers (I use the d-pad to Skip Forward / Backward on my game controller though, IIRC, but when I grab the controller I often mistakenly press one of the bumpers and it jumps, at least in the Netflix app).

Good idea with the colors. They can’t be pre-mapped in av_gen drivers though, if I’m not mistaken (i.e., they have to be selected in Composer - System Design - Programmable Remote Buttons each time you add the driver to the project - see the attached picture).

Frankly after some changes in my setup I did not connect the IR bug again and just kept using the game controller so I’ll need to re-test the driver myself.

Does anyone know if the Language and Shield IR codes do anything?
Seems like I’ve already mapped/copied the Shield IR code to Guide.

Updated to version 2 (see my older post).

The device actually does not act on most of the IR commands.

And most importanty / annoyingly, I had to switch the driver from the media_player proxy back to dvd. Turns out av_gen IR drivers don't work with the media_player proxy. :/ Unfortunately this means the driver shows up under Device Type: DVD (is there any way to override this?) So if you used the first version you will need to delete the driver from the project first.
