Hikvision driver issues only on 4G?

Recommended Posts

I have a strange one, I have the Blackwire Hikvision driver installed and it works great on my T3's and my iPads when on wifi at home, however if I am on 4G on my iPad and access the cameras from the app in the exact same way as I do on wifi the video is static and is hi-res not the normal low res that I get when on the wifi.

Setting are as follows for the Hikvision:

Channel No. Analog Camera1

Stream Type Sub Stream
Resolution 352*288
Video Quality Higher
Frame Rate 512
Video Encoding H.264

Any suggestions?

in the driver, do you have your internal IP or DDNS name?  Do you have the externally accessible check box checked?

It’s set to IP address tried with pub access ticked and it does not even load image in camera overview.

I've had C4 tech support comment on how the "publically accessible" checkbox should not be ticked.  Try reducing the frame rate on the camera from 512 to 256.  Try lower if no success.  Make sure the camera is also set to 15fps.  Sometimes its tricky finding camera settings that work with all C4 viewing methods.

if you have your public IP/DDNS and have port forwarding setup properly - then check the box.

If you don't have all that, uncheck the box and put your internal IP in there for the DVR/NVR

Use the local ip address in the C4 camera driver instead of a ddns address.  Once again, this is advice from C4 tech support.  I haven't used any hikvision drivers lately but this "publicly acessible" checkbox setting does not seem to be necessary in camera drivers anymore.  This is coming from gentleman on the other end of the tech support line.  Port forwarding is only necessary if you're using a 3rd party app (or another computer) outside of the network to view your cameras.

It all depends on your setup. As a self proclaimed camera specialist there is a reason the setting is there

I have no doubt you're experienced.  I find it odd that tech support would recommend to avoid using the publicly accessible setting.  I've found that it does fix camera streaming issues when unchecking it.

Oh like 99% of the time it's not needed. But it is there for a reason

Yup Yup Yup.  Got it.  I just don't fully know the circumstances for using a ddns and "publically accessible" setting.  Extra layer of security?

less security. lol.

If you use Firewall settings/port forwarding/DDnS you can access the camera directly.  That externally accessible checkbox tells the mobile app hey, don't go thru the control4 proxy and access the camera IP directly.  This is, in some instances faster, then proxying the camera access thru control4.

Appreciate the explanation.

Any suggestions for me to try and fix this? Tried the externally access setting and that did not work. It’s set to local IP address. Thanks

Still struggling to fix this, any suggestions

I am having the same issue right now. Everything on a local network works fine, try to access the system from an outside network and only get images.

I have tried both remote and local setup methods with no luck. Rather strange, as I have never had this issue before when creating drivers.

Substream should be

Res 320x240

Quality Medium

Framerate 10

Encoding MJPEG

That said, normally the appshould grab the MAIN stream (SUB stream is primarily for flash devices) as h264 is faster.

If it'san issue only on 4g though, you may want to just try going into advanced options and check mark the frequent ip changes setting in the app

Thanks for that, tried the frequent IP in the app and still no joy on 4G, all other settings are the same. Went in to HE and did a test on the H264 stream and got a DLL error, but it works perfect when my iPhone or iPad is on Wi-Fi. Head scratching time and I have let my dealer know too

Update:

Had a chance to do some testing.

This seems to be related to the IP being used as noted earlier in this thread.

Whenever the internal LAN IP is used the app seems to have issues loading the h264 substream and reverts to images.

When using the public WAN IP or DDNS address with the publicly accesibile box checked I was able to get the substream working correctly when using 4G, and a remote network.

Bitrate, Resolution, and other settings seemed to have little to no effect on it. You defintely want to use h264 encoding, unless your setup requires MJPEG.
