Yeah, the problem didn’t change after he did that. We’re knocking on the door of 20 hours and still going strong. I’m cautiously optimistic that the new modem has solved the problem. That said, the old setup made it this long a few times too.

If it does turn out to be the modem that’s a CRAZY coincidence. Just happened to go bad in the 4 hour window that it took to unhook it, move it over and hook it back up. In fact, it was probably more like a 1.5 hour window.
Powering off electronics that have been on for years can impact them...

Yeah, I get that. It had several power cycles along the way. It was connected to a Wattbox and in the rare circumstances where the internet WOULD go down it would get an auto reboot. I also rebooted it a few times for other reasons and I’m know there were a couple of power outages - but your point is heard. Like I said - I’m cautiously optimistic that this modem was the fix. Until I’m sure I’ve got this old one sitting here.

You should be able to log into your modem and check power levels and corrected/uncorrected codewords to give you and idea if there is a signal issue.

I hate Comcast tech support (and customer support). Switching over to synchronous fiber at my business just to get away from them. Still have them at my house because there are no 1gig fiber options. Hopefully soon.

Seeing as you changed out the modem/router for a straight  modem you won't see the same problem (if there is a problem) since the modem only bridges the public IP to your WAN. Both my old modem and my new modem are straight modems - no router built in and no bridge mode. Both just straight modems.

I do have either a 100mb (up and down) fiber option for $69.95, or a 1gb fiber option (up and down) for $119.95. But it requires a 2 year contract, a $200 installation fee and the company seems like a pain in the ass to deal with. If I can get the Comcast connection stable I’ll keep that for now, as it’s a lower price point and the speeds work fine for my family.

Fixed my post ;)

I would be all over the 1GB fiber option, can't imagine any company being more of a pain than Comcast.

I went years without talking to Comcast, and the service is reliable. When you do talk to them, it’s painful though.

The 1GB up/down fiber option is intriguing but the reality is that I not only have no need but no USE for that. What would I do at home that would take advantage of that?

I have had to deal with them way to much recently, such a pain.

If you are not doing anything the requires the transfer of large amounts of data in timely matter you would want fast service. I have a site-to-site VPN between home and work where I have Hyper-v servers running replication for failover.  The faster the better. Doubt many people are doing this.

Well - I’m at 1d 18h and a solid connection thus far. I’m going to chalk it up to the fact that it was indeed a junk modem. Thanks everyone for your advice. That was the last thing I would have thought as it was the one thing that remained the same from the old setup that worked flawlessly!
