wyrob2
Hi there. a problem since installation but now much worse. We have an audio matrix plus two 8 zone amps. Simply I have to reset the matrix and amps every day (power cycle) to ensure sound through each channel and zone. After a few hours the second amp shows RED in each zone (see picture). The only thing we have as special is the doorbell going through the amps at all times? do I need a new amp or worse?! thanks
pkkaiser
New Amp. Happened twice to me and both times needed to be replaced
wyrob2
Many thanks. so.... it seems to me that these power amps are ‘dumb’ as in the C4 brain only talks to the matrix. any suggestions then for other /newer (cheaper) dumb power amps I could replace those with to make things more resilient/better? Thanks!
wyrob2
Also. Could it be that my matrix is also fried. Periodically it just stops playing out one channel of certain zones. It’s not the amps. Power reset to the matrix (every day) fixes it Upgrade?
pkkaiser
For me it was always crappy amp. After two failed got triad which also failed. On fourth C4 amp.

wyrob2
Hi any suggestions on the matrix amp and power amps to replace my fried units appreciated. I see on C4 they have Triad - any good and do they do a matrix? Thanks!
Unsocialtoaster
Triad do 8 and 24 zone matrices and 8 and 4 zone amps. We always use Triad matrices, and for amps either use the Triad, Sonance or Monitor Audio depending on the job budget and number of channels required. I would stay away from the Control4 "Matrix Amplifier" models as these are now very old https://www.sonance.com/electronics/amplifiers/digital https://www.monitoraudio.com/en/product-ranges/streamers-amplifiers/ia60-12/ https://www.control4.com/solutions/products/amplifiers-and-receivers/
AK1
There is an extended warranty for those amps due to high failure rate. The only way to ascertain if yours is covered is to have your dealer contact Control4. Just looking it up in online RMA won't show.
zaphod
I could be wrong but it looks like C4 has gone away from making matrix amps to matrix switches and amps that can only play audio from a fixed input. Assuming that that is the case, why is this?

I would get a used Control4 matrix on ebay and then buy another brand multizone amp like a Monoprice or you can go even pricer (eg Anthem Multizone AMP) if you want. https://anthemav.com/products-current/type=distribution/model=mdx-16/page=overview I think wth the Anthem you have full audio matrix plus amplifiers and Control4 compatibility and Anthem's famous room correction for each zone. Its $3k but looks like an amazing product and Anthem is known for higher end gear. Would be first on my list if budget allows.
