Hua
Hi new C4 customer here in the US. I am still building it out and my C4 integrator sent me the link of compatible locks. I was thinking of using Schlage before but now it seems the Yale Assure looks the best bet. But I have read the forum a bit and am still a bit confused. 1. I should buy the Zigbee version right? 2. Some people mention that I should buy from C4 as its Zigbee is different from the standard. Is it really true? My integrator seems to not think so. Just want to be sure. chopedogg88
Yes you need to buy the Yale, Kwikset, or Baldwin locks from Control4 as the zigbee is different than standard "off the shelf" zigbee products that you can buy at the big box stores. Cyknight
You CAN get the yale zigbee module via your C4 dealer (may depend on locale) - but it's expensive enough that you'll end up paying MORE in the end than just buying to "C4" version of the lock to begin with. Hua
Thanks. Any idea where I can buy from C4? Is there an online store? Or my integrator should know?

mikemik
I had number of locks from kwikset and schlage - never liked any of them. personally I like Yale (200-300$) or Emtek (400+) locks - both powered by August (has driver for c4) - and you can get these locks from amazon
Hua
Thank you, I think I'll go with Yale too. Just a dumb question since I am new: what is a driver? is it software? Also, if you buy lock from Amazon do you need a dongle to integrate with C4? So which way is better, buying it directly from C4 or from Amazon + dongle? RyanE
Yes, a Control4 driver is software that is installed into the system to let the system know how to talk to a device, and what kind of a thing the device is, and what capabilities that particular thing has. It doesn't make much sense to buy it from Amazon and try and source the Control4-specific dongle. You're not going to save a lot doing it that way, and it's much more difficult, with some manufacturers, you can't even buy the Control4-specific dongle without buying the lock. Avoid the hassle, and just buy a Control4 compatible Zigbee lock from a Control4 dealer. RyanE
mikemik
Yale(August version) is compatible with c4 - there is no special extra hardware needed - just driver added by installer.
