panamagixxer
A friend of mine just moved into a "new" home, about 5 years old. There are single cat5's run to the TV's. He asked his installer (C4) about a Video Switch and they are saying to go with Crestron because there is no C4 supported video switch that would work over a single cat5? Just asking if this sounds correct? They said they could open walls and run more cat cable, but the walls would need repairing (of course).Does this sound right, I know, not a lot of detail, but I figured there would be a solution on 8x8 or 16x16 switch? panamagixxer
That's what I thought, they were stuck on a "Sony" brand that is no longer supported by C4? Not sure what that means. I guess I need to step in and call them?
thecodeman
The new control4 component switch partner is Zektor since Sony quit making theirs. The wiring requirements are the same as I remember.
ichbinbose
the zektor switch does support component video and audio over a single cat5 and it has a built in gain to adjust for different cable lengths. No IR on their balum though.
panamagixxer
So if you used the cat cable for video there is no way to get IR to control the TV?
RyanE
You could use a CAT cable for a HDMI/Network solution, and put an HC200 (or a Global Cache' iTach IR device) at the TV.RyanE
digitaltrader
Just use the Atlona HDBaseT solution that also provides 2-way ir over a single cat5.
seth_j
Key Digital HDMS will do HDMI/IR/RS232/Audio etc over one Cat5E... I do like the HDBaseT solution though.I have a driver (for sale) for the HDMS8X8 (and all other configurations -- 1x15 to 15x1).
