Samsung SmartTV

I got a new TV and the driver I am using doesn't take advantage of the SmartTV function. Anyone have a driver or know of some way to get it to work? Right now I have created a bunch of custom buttons but that's not a long term solution for me.

Ths Samsung Smart TV can be controlled via IP for some cool stuff. EG url text input. Unfortunately as mentioned the tv turns off its ethernet port upon power down so theres no point in really integrating it via IP.

I'm trying to find some more information about the ex-link (rs232) connection that is available on the Samsung SmartTV (8000 series). Anyone know if this connection would work with C4? i.e., as an alternative to IR buds.

I know this is an old post, but is there an IP driver for the Smart TV. The Samsung driver for the 8000 series is IR which works great there is no functionality for Smart TV or changing sources.

I am assuming custom drivers are needed for this; what are some solutions other users are using for SmartTV?

Realistically it won't matter - as there is no smart tv "button" on the remote, the only real method of doing this is either using a custom button or use one of the color buttons or an unused standard button to go to the smart menu, from there transport controls (arrows, select etc) would work just fine - regardless of IR, serial or IP control. MOST of these commands are in the drivers already, many including the "smart" button already too - but it needs to be mapped manually.

With standard tv (ie using the built in tuner) virtually non-existent here, I like to use Guide myself, although I'll also just have the TV available as a source, renamed "Smart TV" or some-such and have it programmed to send the "smart" command on selection.

Changing sources, again as tuner use is irrelevant here, i map the inputs either to the color buttons or more often the number buttons, or use something like "info" to toggle through them.

Thanks Cyknight, I think I have a clearer picture now. I have the Samsung UN55ES8000; I guess my remote dealer found that driver but it does not have the Smart TV IR code. I believe he would have to edit the IR driver; then you are right, the navigation buttons on IR remote are the same.

Can anyone confirm the Smart TV button on the C4 drivers for Samsung UNXXES8000; XX is the size.

Drivers don't show a clear smart button from what I can see, but they do have IR codes for info and hyphen - you could try those and see if you're lucky.

I THINK the one of the hex codes below should be for smart hub if you want to send them on to your dealer to add.

Perfect; I will get him to add them so I can test them. Did you get these hex codes from composer Pro database or your own driver database?

I think I know the answer but just to confirm; can you combine serial and IR codes in one driver?

On the combination - no.

As for where the codes are from - from my Samsung cheat sheet (from way back - Samsung has a set number of codes, including redundancy that they ALWAYS use). It's not very comprehensive, which is why I can't say for sure which of the three, or even 100% sure if it's any is for that TV line.

I have made drivers for these sammies that do smart tv - but don't have those on hand.

Oh ps - the hex codes are IR not serial in case that wasn't clear.
