Typically we use 14/2.  Would there be much of a difference with 12/2?

12/2 speaker is about 40% more expensive than the 14/2 so would prefer no to waste the money if it wont make a difference...

Would 12/2 wire fit into the spring clip speaker terminals on the Triad amp?

Triad amps don’t have spring clips…they’re Phoenix connectors.

70V allows for "daisy chaining" the speakers which would save a lot of wire and a lot of work.  Would this not create delay/lag issues between the first and last speaker in the chain?

No. They wouldn’t be able to sell many 70v systems if this were the case. We use outdoor 70v systems from Sonance & Episode. They require a separate amp, so you will only be using an output of your AMS24, and no extra channels from your 8 ohm amps need to be used.

Would you just have to find an X-Series driver for a model with the same configuration of inputs and outputs?

The closer you get, the easier life will be. You can always use a higher end model that has more features & I/O than what you physically have.

I have in my notes that the AVR-S970h and the AVR-X2800h have basically identical rear panels, but that’s as far as I got with my list lol.

That's why I specifically stated X series. Same for the Yamaha Avantage, specifically that line. I should actually add that for Onkyo you'll want the NR series, not the SR - I'll edit the post

Yes, forgot the Sony ES line.

Of course there's plenty of higher end options as well - but I'll assume that 'affordable' isn't talking about Anthem and up.

Honestly, I'd say your most affordable IP controlled receiver is going to be a Pioneer VSX/non elite - under 600 for a 5.1, retail pricing - you can likely find sales and/or open box for under 500 for both.

I'll add that I personally only run their Elite series in my own place usually the SC line (I've been using htem for years on end and have replaced them only due to HDMI/resolution etc requirements), but we've done numerous non-Elite VSX for surround zones in rooms that aren't dedicated 'media rooms' or theatre and problems are rare - and usually not control (HDMI is a bitch sometimes). But again, no real issues with the others mentioned either.

Receivers is really not something we have to look hard for for reliable options.

    A Denon AVR-S66H is $500 USD.

Has anyone tried the Denon S series? I can't seem to find any drivers for them.

You can control them just fine with X series drivers—you just have to ID them via IP address rather than via SDDP. The same works for controlling RX-V series Yamahas using RX-A series drivers by the way.

I am interested in how you would use this in Control4.  Is it just scheduling, like turning on a dishwasher, clothes washer, etc at certain times?  Turning on an oven?  Are there events that you would want to program against?  When a washer or dryer finishes a cycle you could fire an announcement.  I guess for wine coolers a temperature alarm might make sense.

I integrated an $18k Sub-Zero fridge that had a “party” setting as part of its API, which would tell it to make ice faster. I added that into a Party scene for A/V & lighting.

  7. No guarantees, but here’s where I’d start. I don’t think C4 differentiates between different types of Sonos devices. So in Composer, don’t bind the Port to the AVR. Set your audio endpoint 1 & audio volume 1 as the Port. (If you have other audio sources in that zone, you’ll probably have to make the Port its own room). Then in programming, when room selected audio device changes, if room selected audio device is Sonos Port, turn on AVR, delay a second, set AVR input to whatever input you’re using for the port.

  8. I haven’t tried it with Sonos specifically, but yes, that’s what audio volume 2 is for. We usually use it when a client adds a local source to a tv or uses a TVs internal streaming apps & there’s no audio path back to the AVR/amp.

I assume you want to keep the Sonos audio variable so you can have C4 switch to the correct source and then stay in the Sonos app to navigate music & adjust volume.

Yes, exactly.  I should have been clearer.  Plug the POE injector into power.  And then run a (presumably short) ethernet cable directly from the POE injector to the T4.  At no point does this need to be connected back to your network.  Then put the T4 on wifi, and you should be set.  I used this exact setup for a few days while I was waiting for my electrician to run a new ethernet cable to my T4, and it worked fine.

I understand very perfectly what you meant…but you are missing the point: OP doesn’t have—and can’t get—Cat to the touchscreen. All he has available is Romex. And there’s no good way, while staying within code, to toss a PoE injector inside the wall.

I assume you must be referring to an in-wall T4, since the tabletop T4 is AC powered only. If so, you don't need an actual ethernet connection there.  Get a POE injector, plug it in (or get power to it however you like), and then run an ethernet cable from the POE port of the injector to your T4.  That will provide power to the T4.  Next, select wifi access in the network settings of the T4 screen, and that will give it a network connection.

That’s all fine & good if you can run Cat to the touchscreen location. He has a T3 powered by 120V and can’t magically turn that Romex into Cat.

  11. What input(s) do show it, and which one(s) don’t? It is not a setting that you can enable/disable per input.

We were actually looking into this today with a Yamaha RX-V385. Volume indicator shows up on some sources but not a Scientific Atlanta cable box. We believe it’s a HDCP issue with the cable box that’s preventing the volume indicator from passing through.

ok so I figured since the title of this post has Spectrum in it, I would ask some of the experts on here for some major help. A little background on me might help so if someone can help me they know I'm not a total moron, only 50% moron lol. I have been installing and programming automation systems for years now. I mostly URC for many years but about 14 months ago I went Control4 and never looked back. We also use some Lutron products and integrate them into C4 and many other things but not important right now lol. Basically for this conversation i guess all you really need to know is that I have all 4 certifications from control4 including the PCNA in araknis, and I just got the PCNA about 1 1/2 months ago. I am very proud of myself sorry if it sounds like I am bragging. I hate people like me...  But I digress. some of you guys on her like MSGREENF I truly look up to and admire. I can see you really have your sh*t together and I consider you one of the top pros. I look forward to seeing your answers and posts. Well enough of me kissing up to msgreenf  🙂

so here is my problem. These customers of mine have spent a lot of money with me, they wanted the complete package of control4 , surround sound, networking, all engraved dimmer switches, cameras, distributed music everything in a new rack ,you get the point.... well we did everything they wanted and they are loving the look, the sounds ect... well then we get that dreaded phone call from an upset customer that they cannot control there spectrum cable box after only 2 days.  So I went back and some commands worked and some did not. so i convinced them to go switch out there box that had a date on the back from 2018 that also said colorvision on it which after  many hours of research i found who makes it and everything. so I had them swap it out for a new one. plus I told the homeowner to let them know at spectrum what we are trying to do and that your cable box will be on a rack in a network room that is not in the same area as the TV and using Control4 to control it. either IR or IP if they have a box that will do that. So they did and came back with a brand new one.  The new one is the spectrum 210-H which is basically the same dam box but this time they gave them an IR extender. I already knew where to place my IR  to!  So i look up a driver and of course there are non for this box. so I said *uck it i will make my own using the control4 driver editor  the basic one. So I used there factory remote and copied all of the commands and did everything I normally do when I have to make a driver using the remote. It worked great! I tried every command multiple times and finally, it was a done deal and the homeowners where happy again.

2 days later the phone rang again and it was them with the same problem. I go back and some of the commands stopped working. So I redid the driver and copied all the commands again and it worked fine again. Well this happed 4 more times and after 2 months of going back and forth and spectrum being 0 help, the customers make a comment that every integrator hates to hear. "If I knew that I would not be able to use control4 (or my Neeo Remote) to watch TV then I would have never even gotten Control4 or any of this". "I am having serious buyers remorse here , What can we do about this". I tried to explain how this really is a spectrum problem that we did explain from day 1 but give me a couple of days to do some more research and see what we can come up with.

On a side note, everything else works Great! apple tv, his Roku, Xbox, everything. The lighting is perfect, cameras exactly what he wanted. even the music is more than he paid for. I felt bad about this situation and gave him a 4 zone autonomics amp for free, and even installed it and set it all up for free. He only bought a traid 1 zone amp for 5 zones because he did not want to spend anymore money (really his wife capped him) even though we told him a 1 zone amp is not the way to go ect.... He said it was temporary, and the 4 zone autonomics amp was an old one I had from another customer that gave it to me for free after he upgraded a bunch of things from us. I cant sell a customer something used so it was not to big of a deal.

Back to the problem. So now I have these customers, who have spent a lot of money, everything else in the project is working perfectly but you know customers, if 1 thing is not right out of 1000 things, your shit in there eyes. So now I have to figure out how to make this spectrum 210 DVR box work correctly and consistently work. Please help!

Also using the spectrum app is out they want a physical cable box to work because of the DVR recordings on it

    Thank you in advance

    Nick Wanerka

Wow you have a lot to say. For future reference, just about every Spectrum box, no matter the model/manufacturer, can be controlled with the Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8300HD driver.
