  1. Mr Alan,

Any updates on some drive updates :)

    1. Adding Plex natively to he Nvidia Shield button so we don’t have to have two drivers and keep flicking between the two?

    2. Yeelight LED strip lights, adding the functionality for setting custom saved programs - party, holiday etc also enabling choice of flow settings? I checked these are available on the API.

Would be great to have these updated.

  2. I’m a month in and the above is pretty much my view (apart from the fact that I like my T3s - albeit they are all in wall and I would never buy the portable T3... I have iPads thank you).
    Main issues are:
    1. Backlights - not fixable by software sadly.
    2. Need a few more buttons... Can probably be fixed by adding a row at the top of the screen that gives you custom buttons which are there all the time if you want.
    3. Some software upgrade needed as highlighted above.
In our bedroom TV lounge (main viewing area), I have my trusted SR260 and my Neeo... I like both but tend to still go for the SR260 instinctively and am trying to ween myself off.  Of course in other viewing areas (home and beach house), I have SR260s and a few old SR250s so weening will not be easy!

Good points the hardware issues like back light we stuck with until the version they really wanted to release might become available in a few months as version 1.1. At which point all the current owners will be highly @&$/(;$ off :)

  3. (typing on mobile excuse the formatting)

I will give you my impressions as I took the plunge. It was a grudge purchase At first bit I have to have the gadgets :)

    a week or so usuage:

    pros

Its a beautiful design, great build quality and I always appreciate the small things like the cloth included to clean the screen and the cable management included with the C4 logo. Screen is a great resolution for a small screen. It has some great functionality, finally I can replace my terrible T3s have, the T3s have just been a cr@py experience and I have quite a few. The wife loves the remote over the T3s and the SR 260s I have. Wife happy life happy :) battery life is great.

    cons

IMHO its mostly fixable via software updates. Interface is confused i.e If you go to listen>tidal>playlist all the songs are there but then you cant use the direction buttons to scroll the playlist, you must use the touch screen (the touch screen is a pro 🙂 ) lack of camera etc buttons -you have OSD which works well! You have experience buttons you can map on the sw (would of been nice to have some hard buttons like the color ones on the SR remotes) Software is still a little slow like changing rooms but so was the SR260s and the T3s so its a larger c4 design issue not the remote. No notifications on the remote :( like when my front gate is open I have a camera snapshot notification sent, all my navigators get the notification but the neo.

All of these in my view C4 can fix via software but alas C4 fixes take way, way, way, way (@ryanE hint hint) to long during release, in this time and day users expect quicker even if its smaller releases.

Personally the back lighting on the buttons is an oversight and yes should of been incorporated for this priced remote, tbh took me two days to remember the button positions ...

Will I replace my 6+ T3s with neos - absolutely as I hate the T3s.

Things I would like to see is a screen protector and / or case for the remote, I have a 4 yr old and a 32 year old wife both of which are real users :)  and the remotes / T3 tool some proper damage from “normal” use. Cameras shown on the neo screen (actual streaming). Screen is small yes res might not support it but the screen is big enough to be able to quickly look and if there is something you wanna have a look at use the OSD of the navigator on you TV.

Apologies for the format, and long post but wanted to post this on a “is it worth $600” type of post.

  4. Thanks - that is what I figured.  I can just take it apart, measure it and order a replacement from AMZN.

    Some advise -
I have done this for most of my kit sitting in my server room :-) Yes I know it voids all sorts of things -

Those fans that spin up will be three pin connection fans, two for power one for control.

I have tested many fans but none have come close to the build quality, reliability, amount of air it pushes and the fact that they near silent!

The manufacturer is : Noctua whole range is on Amazon

  5. I had the driver installed but I haven't had a chance to play with it yet.  I am assuming that you can trigger events when a client joins you network.  Hopefully you can program off of a specific client, as in "when MAC 11:22:33:44:55:66 joins the LAN announce "Bobby is home".  Or base it off of IP address or something else that is a unique ID for a person's phone.

Just rereading your post I wouldn't use client join as an accurate indication - use case as to why not:

You go for a run and you use your phone / device as your music device while running you leave your house lose connectivity, say your route takes you past your house and you have good signal and device picks up temporarily - you would get a notification you at home but you not your running past :-)

I would look at the AP Beacon feature that unifi have been promising need to check if this was finally released. It was also suppose to help for location awareness around the house (so which room are you in...)

  6. So there are currently two main ways to do this programmatically. I have been doing a bu ch of work (because I am OCD) filtering in data into Grafana for pretty graphs :-) (but really cool info)

    1. Device layer - ssh the device and use the shell commands on the device. If you running latest firmware a decent amount of commands there.

    2. Controller level- There is a api they have which is well documented and has rece tly become quite detailed.

I use SSH when I need low level access like running tcpdump to see what my cheap Chinese cameras are doing and where they sending some traffic to ( it's actually horiffic what you find from these Chinese cameras) all of mine are blocked at my USG and front line Firewall appliance.

I use the api to get stats and stuff from the contoller as the controller ultimately is the "director" if you had to use C4 terms.

The thing about the api last time I checked they do not have a method to encrypt I.e. The communication securely. You can use the self signed cert that comes with the controller but that's pointless as you can pull the cert using a simple browser and then use it in Wireshark to decrypt the traffic.

  7. Make sure binding are first done then re run calibration! Make sure you connect it when all equipment is OFF as the HdBase-T devices are more sensitive than a baloon and they cost a fortune $345 MSRP. Ebay has some for $149 (second hand so make sure you have proof they work)

Check the specs of the TV if you have EDID (think thats the right acronym, good to turn on as the Tv communicates its capabilities to the matrix and provides best config.

They equipment is awesome just some little things like the baluns.

  8. Is this for an existing DS2 or default 2N device? On DS2 they work well BUT the C4 DS2 driver is so cr@p and it keeps syncing the C4 driver settings. Why is this an issue - the 2N door station and kit is top grade. If you logon via the web interface you can see why and the insane advanced things you can do. Give it a few mins and C4 wipes all that and reverts it to a stupid device.

I am looking at sniffing the traffic figuring when does it push the settings and blocking the sync. Just the sync. Allow it to sync once and then block so it doesn’t over ride my settings directly on the 2N device.

Wish the driver was not so forceful and restrictive fine with it keeping the C4 settings but not resetting all the other settings and logic you build into it.

How does this relate to your post well my first question on this post.

  9. I have quite a large Unifi network at home over 11 APs (Pros) a 48 port POE switch, Gen 2 controller and a 1U USG.

There are just so many config options to tweak it l, I found their community forums actually brilliant and get help almost immediately.

few things to check as mentioned IPS and DPS - these reduce the over all speed quite a bit and they have / use to have a warning about this. Advanced features options same. Both in my opinion are only valuable if you actively monitor them they do have valuable info so you need to decide on the benefit vs impact.

You need to look at your network with a wholistic approach. Look at the wireless clients on the controller are you getting ant tx or rx drops due to clashes on bands? 2ghz is especially problematic. Run the band tool it will give you a good view of which band on the channel is the best or has the least clashing.

Check the broad cast power and if you POE the device(s) make sure its getting enough power from the switch if you go to high.

check which clients are connecting to the ap and their behavior, somehow I had a client downstairs and i have three stories each being concrete slabs. It was connecting to outdoor AP on the roof and not the AP next to it, for some reason. Lots of retries this causes overhead. Find out why - mine was because the device was next to a window and somehow thought that was the best AP.

Suggestion create a different WLAN for you 2ghz and then on the AP on radios - 2ghz select that WLAN splits the networks and provides better selection.

Turn of auto band steering wont let older devices android and apple to connect on the network.

Check your uplink config make sure if you have to auto its using the right uplink.

Then if you have a unifi switch tons of settings there.

These are just some of the adjustments. I am holiday so my brain is on holiday to :)

excuse grammatical or spelling errors typing quickly on my mobile.

  10. So my house runs on full solar with battery backup for 24 hrs (utility if there isn't enough power), for me its more about other scenarios. However I do see there isn’t much options one can go for.

Thought it was my config somehow disappointing it doesn’t have this built in :(

Thank you for all the replies

  11. Hi all,

I think this might have been covered searched and didn't find the thread I thought was around this, so asking again.

I have 3 controllers x2 EA5's and x1 HC800 in my main house setup. When the main controller (EA5 running as the coordinator) goes down for whatever reason, the house becomes useless. Looking at my good old technical days we use to have HA and DR ;) It is most probably something wrong with my config, is there a way to make the system more resilient. So when the main EA5 goes down the second EA5 kicks in so the house can still work?

What do I mean by work:

When the main EA5 is down:

    1. The keypad button's don't function
    2. The T3's all go spastic and don't function

    Etc.

Would appreciate the advise. Maybe one note, the main EA5 is in my server room which is a walk in vault with a thick steel door. The other EA5 is two stories up and about two thick concrete slabs up. I put the second EA5 there as for some reason the zigbee connectivity wasn't great even tough there are plenty of switches (lights etc) from the server room all the way around the house (did this to make sure the mesh was well covered).

To me this all seems like a config issue on my part but don't know where to start looking and where to try and fix it. Would appreciate the guidance.
