I went years without talking to Comcast, and the service is reliable. When you do talk to them, it’s painful though.

The 1GB up/down fiber option is intriguing but the reality is that I not only have no need but no USE for that. What would I do at home that would take advantage of that?

I have had to deal with them way to much recently, such a pain.

If you are not doing anything the requires the transfer of large amounts of data in timely matter you would want fast service. I have a site-to-site VPN between home and work where I have Hyper-v servers running replication for failover.  The faster the better. Doubt many people are doing this.

Yeah, the problem didn’t change after he did that. We’re knocking on the door of 20 hours and still going strong. I’m cautiously optimistic that the new modem has solved the problem. That said, the old setup made it this long a few times too.

If it does turn out to be the modem that’s a CRAZY coincidence. Just happened to go bad in the 4 hour window that it took to unhook it, move it over and hook it back up. In fact, it was probably more like a 1.5 hour window.

You should be able to log into your modem and check power levels and corrected/uncorrected codewords to give you and idea if there is a signal issue.

I hate Comcast tech support (and customer support). Switching over to synchronous fiber at my business just to get away from them. Still have them at my house because there are no 1gig fiber options. Hopefully soon.

  3. Never done it, but I think you would want to use a normal switch and a 120v relay to do the switching or a keypad that controls a zigbee remote relay. Could even run it back to the controller if it has any free relays. Electrician should have a good idea on how he would prefer to wire it.

The Z-Wave driver is fully functional and reports the state of the lock fine.

The dongle is pricey, the range is crap and the performance isn't there. If you had the same lock in C4 Zigbee or the same long in Z-wave with the Dongle the C4 Zigbee one will work much much better.

I hate when people try to back door the door locks to try and save $50/lock. Just buy a proper zigbee one from your dealer and be done with it. Only use Z-wave if you inherited locks from an old alarm system and they are already in place. Buying them yourself on ebay or where ever is just not worth the hassle for the little to no money you will save at the end of the day.

    Already had the locks.

Did not report lock state fine. It reported the first time it connected after a power cycle but that was it.

Swapped in a C4 module and it all works now.
