  1. Great input, thanks. Luckily I should be able to run the speaker wires. Anyone know if there is a maximum length before the signal or quality degrades? I can and will also definitely run ethernet Cat6. With respect to the alarm, my goal is not to pull 8 or more runs of 4-wire from the pool house back to the panel. Is there any way to put an alarm sub panel in the pool house and then just run one wire from that back to the main panel?
  2. I want to add a security system to a pool house with its own security panel. The pool house will have 8 or 16 zones (doors / windows / motion etc). My goal is to run only one wire from the pool house to main security panel the home. 1) I have not decided if I want everything to be on the same partition (when house is armed, pool house is armed as well) or on a separate partition (pool house independently controlled) in case there are guests staying in the pool house. With a DSC Neo system, is this possible? 2) If I wanted to add Control4 to the pool house for lighting, would the best way be to install a hardwired EA-1 to service the Zigbee switches? 3) If I wanted to add Control4 speakers to the pool house, would it be best practice to run speaker wires from speaker locations to the audio matrix/amp in the main house?
  3. I just installed a PowerG wireless contact for a Cantina door. I only want to use this for automation (not security). For example, if the door is opened, lights turn on. If the door is left open for more than 5 minutes, a notification is sent. What settings or attributes do I need to adjust in DSC so the zone will not trigger an alarm if the Cantina door is opened when the system is armed?
  4. I know the dimmers/switches have two LEDS (top and bottom). Is there also another LED in the middle of the switch behind the actual paddle (backlight). See attached photo? If there is, I want to configure this for visual indicators. I tried using the "Misc Commands" --> Set Backlight Color, but it did not work. How do you program these?
  5. Perfect. This is what I was looking for. Worked great. Is there any way to apply a setting across all light switches so I don't have to manually program each one?
  6. Gotcha. Would this work for things like TP-Link RGB smart bulbs?
  7. It just occurred to me that in an interior double door application, only a single mag lock is required. One of the doors is "fixed" with a flush bolt securing the fixed door pretty much at all times. I personally use two flush bolts (top and bottom) which really helps make the fixed door more secure with less wobble at the bottom (which happens when a flush bolt is just installed at the top of door).
  8. So maglock paired with a relay that is controlled via Control4. Seems simple enough. Definitely going to look into this for my next project. I like the idea of Control4 integration, which could be programmed to automatically lock/unlock the maglock to correlate with the armed status of the house. Has anyone used the Control4 driver for August lock? What has your experience been?
  9. I know. I have seen people spend more money on their hand carved solid slab Calacutta kitchen island or slate roof than a lot of people spend on their entire house.
  10. OK OK. Everyone has me convinced. I am going back to the onboard ethernet controller if there absolutely no reason for gigabit. Another benefit using the TV's ethernet port which nobody mentioned is it will free up the TV's USB port.
  11. I did not realize 4k streaming uncompressed is only pushing around 50Mbps. This is what I was looking for, but could not find the option to manually enter the IP. Is ID via AP and manually entering MAC available in Composer HE?
  12. Internal streaming of blu-ray quality videos from my NAS. Future proofing as Netflix and other providers start offering higher video quality. So how do I get control4 to recognize the new IP?
  13. So I recently discovered the network card in pretty much every TV (including Sony) is only 100Mbps. I bought a TP-Link USB to Ethernet adapter (UE300), plugged it into the USB port on my Sony TV and voila, I am now getting gigabit connection (verified this through my Ubiquiti portal). Problem is the TV now has a new IP address and it seems Control4 is paired to the TV's old IP address. How do I update or point Control4 to the correct IP address for this TV? FYI I use a Pre Shared Key for the Sony TV and the credentials did not change.
  14. What type of safety features? I have done these as well and they are not cheap, but not crazy expensive. Just depends on the hinging mechanism used and how "hidden" you want it to be. I have used this for a locking mechanism in those applications and it has worked well for me: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B07X8N9TN2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It also depends on the millwork companies past experience. If they have never done this before, you bet its gonna be costly. I never like to be the "learning curve" for trades.
  15. Always talking new construction. I don't do reno's. I would put one switch in the room and hide another switch somewhere nearby. Do these allow for locking/unlocking via smart phone / app? It's not like front door application where I would be buzzing people in. I take it 24v power supply would get installed in the AV room/rack? Is there a battery backup? Do they require surface mounting, or can everything be buried in the door and door frame (e.g. rout out a box like you would for a mortise lock)?
  16. Mag locks for residential construction is not something we ever use so my experience with it is pretty much nil. Do you mind sending some product links and/or pictures of these installations? I am also curious to know the cost involved for mag locks along with the electrical requirements and rough in.
  17. Designed and built myself. I build custom homes. Smart wiring / AV for always been one of my favorite parts of a new build.
  18. Mag locks work good for single doors but not double doors. I would have preferred a mag lock. I tried to source something that would have worked but I couldn’t find anything. Do you have any suggestions? Another small detail I added was a vertical strip of burlap to the door on the inside of the room. This prevents light from the office bleeding through and making it more obvious there is another room there.
  19. This is pretty cool. I would imagine 90% of C4 users don't utilize their lighting to this degree (including myself). Sadly I think a lot of integrators just don't know how to do this, or don't want to bake the cost of such programming into their price. I also understand from an installer side, the more complex the system, the more potential for things to go wrong which would require additional service calls. Cool idea. Do you think this could be simplified just based on alarm armed status. If the house is armed away, it knows nobody is home etc. This is cool, have not seen it before. Basically it is just a dishwasher designed to hold a greater quantity of glasses and fragile stemware. I personally prefer a regular dish washer in the servery / bar area since it provides functionality to receive regular dishes as well which is good for entertaining. I have subs in any rooms with surround sound. Since there is one surround setup on each floor, it works well because I can add that room to the music session which puts a little bass into it on each floor. See attached. This ties in with my previous comment about the August Smart lock only visible on one side. I can lock the office when not in there and if someone leans against the door it just feels like a wall. Only issue with this setup is if the lock ever fails when engaged, I am going to have to use my sawzall to cut the deadbolt. In the pictures attached you can also catch a glimpse of the Aria floor registers with two types of material (porcelain / hardwood) used to make it disappear into the floor.
  20. See attached pictures. The key to this installation was using a 45 degree extrusion (https://www.richelieu.com/ca/en/category/lighting-solutions-and-accessories/led-lighting-and-profiles/led-profiles-and-accessories/led-profiles/45-corner-profile-for-led-tape-light/1169955/sku-30142010) screwed into the underside of the bullnose. This provided a clean and consistent location for the LED tape to be installed.
  21. Thanks Mitch. See attached picture. The options for "set color" is greyed out (unavailable)? I had my original integrator program the bedroom switches to have no LED's ever illuminated, as it bothers us when we sleep. Don't know if this is causing the issue?
  22. Often times we arm our security system via Alexa while bed to stay mode. I would like to program a visual confirmation on the bedroom dimmer switch so the LED turns red for 20 seconds when system is armed to stay, and then back to its original color. What would be the best way to program this?
  23. Is your dynamic lighting manually programmed or via a driver that simplifies the process? No need for Tornado warnings here in Ontario, but this pretty cool. How does "auto unlock" work? The doors unlock when you get home or lock when you leave based on smart phone? First post to actually include some "other" stuff. Thanks! What is a "bar glassware dishwasher"? Do you mean a dishwasher located in a bar area, or a dishwasher specifically for glassware (like at a restaurant) where it is on a type of conveyor belt? In wall/ceiling subs. I am a big fan of in ceiling speakers, but wonder if in ceiling subwoofer is the best placement? I would be concerned about the low frequency travelling to the rooms above. I personally prefer my subs place on the floor or in a wall close to the floor. Let me contribute a few of my favorite "non control4" features: 1. Dedicated cupboard to hold vacuum sealer with flip up appliance lift from rev-a-shelf: https://rev-a-shelf.com/16775 2. Kitchen drawer inserts for knives/accessories (https://rev-a-shelf.com/16661) & spices (https://rev-a-shelf.com/2449) 3. Whole house recirculation pump for hot water. There is a caveat to this: if you don't insulate the water lines, then the cold water comes out warm until the water in the lines is purged. It is the opposite of waiting for hot water, you have to wait for cold water. 4. Paneled walls to hide doors into closets or rooms. 5. Furnace Room: drain standpipes strategically located around the perimeter of the room to receive all the condensate and drain lines from equipment so there is not 10 hoses snaking into the floor drain across the floor. 6. Radiant heated floor in garage and epoxy floor coating. 7. Aria registers (https://ariavent.com/) for heat runs in hardwood/tile/millwork and drywall returns. These are so beautiful and also eliminate the amount of dust that collects on traditional metal grills. I only need to clean them once a year. 8. August lock for office which door which is panelized, which is only visible from the inside of the room. 9. Alexa's located throughout tied to Control4 voice scenes. By programming in natural phrases to trigger events, voice control for the house is next level. I also like the "announce" feature: Alexa "announce dinner is ready" and it rings a dinner style triangle bell followed by my voice saying "dinner is ready" through all the echos. It's also great when walking around and kids leave TV's on: just say "Alexa turn off family room" and its done. 10. Heated cables for downspouts/gutters. Here in Canada we have crazy winters now where the temperature can go above zero and drop below zero multiple times per season and often the same day/night. Often this results in huge ice backup in the downspouts. Heated cables eliminates this issue. 11. Wall mounted toilets and floating vanities. Not only does this look good, but it allows for super easy cleaning below the toilets and vanities. 12. LED accent lighting above / below cabinetry, in walls along staircases and under treads hidden in the projection of the bullnose. 13. Utility sink in garage for kids to wash up after playing outside, fill up water bottles, or for dad to wash up after working in garage. 14. Hot / Cold frost free hose bibs for exterior of house. 15. Dedicated cupboard in kitchen with electrical outlet to hold Dyson vacuum for easy access in this high use area.
  24. Thank You. 1) What is the difference between "Room Setting & Current Media" and "Room Setting Only" (see attached picture). 2) I still don't see the option for programming "next track". What am I missing?
  25. I avoided switching to ignite for a long time (was using the Digital Boxes as well), but they have phased them out and don't even offer the digital plans anymore. When I made the switch, everything actually worked nice. I think the firmware is very similar, but cannot say for sure. Both the Comcast and xFinity app for streaming look and function pretty much identically, all the way down to the login screen...
