Open Ceiling Speakers

Recommended Posts

Lots of experience here, working on a project at my home and have a large space that will be open ceiling.  Curious what speakers and mounts you've used to get speakers tucked up, securely, into the joist spaces?

Depends on the looks you're looking for, as well as the type of roof (material, flat or angled). Also depends on how you're looking to 'aim' the speakers.

In open ceilings that are wood, we've had custom boxes made of the same wood to mount regular ceiling speakers in.

Also done full custom speakers to fit in between joists.

Also used Definitive Mythos speakers that have a mount that works well on and angled roof (not for a flat roof)

Omnimount has several celing mounts for box speakers, but nothing overly heavy, and not meant for straight down angle

If looking for overall background music, I’d vote for pendant speakers as well.  They typically have a very wide dispersion angle, so less speakers needed to cover a large space.

Bass response is usually very surprising as well.

Also, most can be wired 70v or 8 ohm, so if it’s a large space, you’d be better off with 70v for easier wiring.

Ok, let me clarify...  This is an open ceiling basement, not outdoor area, and everything is being sprayed black.  Recessed lights are being sunk in between the floor joist and I'd like to place numerous  dual voice coil speakers  in the same manner.
